RE: When did you become...
When I walked on to the campus in the summer of 1972 during a high school yearbook conference. Love at first sight.

Toured in 2008 and fell in love. Grew up in Southwest Georgia and now you can't get me out of Southeast Georgia

RE: When did you become...
Never liked college football... thought it was LAME compared to NFL even though my dad played at Texas A&M for Bear Bryant as Gene Stallings' backup one year after the Junction Boys. Living in Alaska in the 70's thru the early 90's it was all about the NFL and once every couple of years, Dad would get excited about the Aggies being on TV (we only had a few channels mind you) and there was not talking, no interruptions whatsoever from kickoff to the games end.

Relocated to Mobile in the early 90's and all there was to talk about and watch was Alabama, Auburn and the N.O. Saints, in that order. Took a few courses at USA eventually realized the Jags were a pretty decent athletic school and meanwhile, college football was growing on me.

In 2001 (IIRC?) there was a doomed-to-fail drive for a football team at USA and I jumped head first into that drive, putting up posters for the club team and trying to hype anyone I could into purchasing season tickets for a D-I team yet to exist and without a coach to boot. It failed. I never stopped pushing for USA football, using social media and pestering university officials with CBA's and every other tool I could think of. IT ONLY MADE FRIGGING SENSE FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!!

Just as I was about to give up on the whole idea, USA finally decided to not only give it a shot but to focus on becoming the "Boise State Of The South" and this is when I TRULY became a college football fan and I've only missed ONE home game EVER and that was because I had H1N1 flu but even so I watched the game on TV.

Long-winded but then again, the truth was a long story.

Attended in the late 80's and early 90's. We went to the Tourney in 1991 but didnt cause a blip on campus. Remember UAB starting football and thinking "we should do that here". Started following again late 90's during the Lefty years. Then was back on campus in 2004 and attended an Athletics town hall meeting when football was the F word and every was under strict orders to never mention it. Started a petition. Met some nutty MBB fans who were also involved with club football team. The rest is history.

RE: When did you become...
Moved to Statesboro in 1994, both parents had jobs at the newly minted Georgia Southern University. Became a casual fan then, went to several games throughout high school. Initially went to another college, but moved back home in 1999 to attend Southern. Watching Adrian Peterson and those awesome teams in the late 90's really cemented my fanhood. Now I hold 2 degrees from there and still live in the Boro, raising my kids to Hail Southern and no place else!

I grew up North of Atlanta, so I grew to hate all the redneck, ignorant UGA fans I grew up with, and I was just never much of a GT fan. Somehow became a UNC fan. Started at Southern in 2004 and was instantly hooked and was no longer a UNC fan.

I can relate. I WAS a die hard Auburn football fan (no longer) as a teenager in the late 80's. My parents moved us to SC from south philly, PA ('86). I went to TROY in 1990 & became an immediate fan...haven't looked back. I was there to see coach Blakeney's very 1st games. 04-cheers

RE: When did you become...
I became an App fan the day I set foot on the campus in 1973. At that time many of the App students could be seen wearing UNC/Duke/NCSU swag because of ACC basketball. That has changed drastically over the years and it's nice to see mostly App swag on campus and more active alumni.

I think we all do. It was tough as football fans being located in the middle of the hotbed of college football without a team.

August 28th, 1992. My sister was already at State. I was a beginning as a freshman in high school. It was my birthday, and my sister wanted me to come to campus and have lunch with her. She was a senior and a DJ at WRAS. Her intro song was Talking Heads Burning Down the House, and she let me start her show that day. I started falling for GSU that day.

RE: When did you become...
September 8th, 2007, season/home opener vs. West Georgia, my first semester at THE Georgia Southern University. I grew up in a household of non-sports followers (Mom graduated from Georgia State, Dad no college) so I didn't really watch college sports until I started at Georgia Southern. Jayson Foster proceeded to run for over 200 yards with 3 TDs along with another one through the air, nuff said. It wasn't until that first football game that I felt like I really had a team to call my own. I have been True Blue, 100%, ever since!

What has made the last 2 years bearable is the idea that at least we have football. 10 years ago it seemed like a crazy insurmountable dream.

What a great period of time. Pre-Olympics. So you get to appreciate the whole gamut of change. Incidentally that was the year Carl V Patton started his 16 year tenure as President of GSU. Changed everything.

Some of you became fans as a student. Some others became fans by supporting a spouse or other family reasons. Others may have been born into it.

Me? I became a fan back in the 80's during the Div II days living in Philly, PA.

What's your reasoning??

Always have been. My dad graduated from GS, I graduated from GS, and my son graduated from GS.

Wow! Talk about generational. No grand kids??

We're not real optimistic that the first grandson will be an Eagle, since both his parents are UGA grads. However, our younger son not only attended GS, but played football there under Coach Monken, so I'd say there's still a chance when/if he has kids.
