I am officially an independent!
After years of following in lock step with the Democratic Party, I have become too disillusioned with the Obama/Pelosi ideals to support them anymore.

That being said, my conscious does not allow me to support a party that has far too many Tea Party and Christian Conservatives, and is far too focused on Gay Marriage and abortion for my tastes. Therefore I will not be siding with the republicans.

The only good thing I have to say about our health system is that it is better than Africa's. I thought Obama was going to actually fix it with his affordable health care for all Americans Line. Instead, he created a health care plan that is actually only affordable for a small percentage of the population. Had I not signed on with a provider who made a guarantee never to raise my rate because of the new Law, I would have been paying nearly $175 more per month for poorer health care.

George Bush did his best to prove he had no idea how to fix our Education System, but the Democratic party seems just as clueless themselves. No child left behind is dead thankfully, but its replacement seems more confusing than it is helpful. And for the record, for states starting Common Core, its not really that "common"

Bush committed resources to fighting invisible WMD's in Iraq and instead through the entire region into inbalance. Obama promised to pull troops, only to have to send many right back. We're extremely reactive instead of pro active and are allowing terrorist organizations to gain ground instead of lose ground.

We may be the greatest nation in the world, but all I've gotten out of the last few terms in both federal and state legislatures is that 99 percent of the people who are put into power are complete idiots. And We owe China about 20 gazillion dollars or something.

Something needs to be done. I just don't trust either party to do it.

Rant over. Bash away.

I about lost my mind this week watching the Arkansas Senate Race. At one point the Democratic Candidate actually blamed his opponent for the recent Ebola outbreak, using a very ridiculous reason. He could have easily just pointed out the guy made a poor vote to not fund our Children's hospital, but instead he blamed that vote for Ebola Today.

Not to be outdone, his republican opponent took the time yesterday to essentially accuse his opponent of working with Isis, who apparently is secretly planning to invade Arkansas at any moment....or so he says.

I've got the NRA telling us about how terrible Michael Bloomberg is and how he's going to destroy Arkansas value, when Bloomberg doesn't have anything to do with Arkansas.

I think I may leave the Senate Vote Blank this year. Or figure out if you can write in someone.

I'll never understand the hatred of the Tea Party.

The Tea Party is not concerned with social issues. It only desires small, limited, and responsible government. It fights against the expansion of the welfare state. It understands that power is a zero-sum game between the people and government, and the pendulum has swung toward government for far too long.

Is that evil?

I've made that argument many times , UConn. but too many people on the left have gotten their "claim" that the Tea Party is a social conservative base, when it's NEVER been that.

Are there some Tea Party supporters who are social cons? Yep.. just like there are Tea Party supporters who are progressives..

Congrats. Maybe there's hope that you'll realize the futility of being a Chiefs fan and start cheering on the Broncos.

edit: unless I'm missing a nickname for Arky State that I'm not aware of...

It's those that have hijacked the TEA Party name and tried to use it to enrich themselves or swing it to further social conservative issues as well.

The original TEA Party is no party at all, just a bunch of harmless, like minded folks that had or have had it over intrusive, bloated government and business as usual.

Anyone that cares to go look (not you Da, generic anyone) google TEA party rally and see the aftermath. More often than not the grounds were left in better shape than they where before they held the rallies. Now compare that to some of the "Green" rally and those disgusting pigs.

Was it Mark Twain who said "If voting really mattered the Government wouldn't let you do it anyway." For some reason I still vote even though I know it doesn't mean a damn thing.

The slime-ing of the Tea Party is so bad that I have ignorant Facebook friends who label any Republican as a "bagger" even when they were challanged by a TP candidate in the primary. John McCain? Bagger. Lamar Alexander? Bagger. Lindsey Graham? Bagger.

The hatred (at least from me) is not toward the original tea party. I actually was in their corner, but when they got co-opted by big money and the Republicans, I was out.

I'm in the "both parties suck" camp. I don't think that and independent necessarily go hand-in-hand though because my vote is pretty much going to one party, the party that sucks less.

Common Core is not the replacement to NCLB. Race to the top is what replaced it.

Agreed in part John...

NCLB -> RttT (which was actually pretty short lived) -> Common Core

But a thornbush by any other name... is still a thornbush.

NCLB & RTTT were programs that dealt more with funding than anything else. CC is more about the actual curriculum than anything else. CC's role in regards to RTTT is that it acts as the testing method.

NCLB & RTTT originated out of congress. CC did not originate out of congress but the national governors association that states volunteered to adopt.

RTTT/NCLB compared to CC serve completely different functions. RTTT & CC are in fact linked, but by no means is RTTT's success dependent on CC. you could easily replace CC with something else and it wouldn't even be a speed bump for RTTT

The original Tea Party was great. Small gov't, low taxes.
