Man that's so red it's making me crave a cherry snow cone.

Yes, I live in a blue county, in a liberal city, controlled by democrats.

I'm glad you can now, so clearly, see and understand that fact.

COGS

If it is so controlled by democrats, why weren't the democrats able to win a single county wide election last time? Also, what party affiliation is the county mayor? Answer: Republican.

Because, as we have already discussed, Memphis is not all of Shelby County...Germantown, Collierville, Lakeland, etc vote in the county.

Now, I'm ALL for cutting down on waste and redundancy by doing a quasi-consolidation, like the schools did...just have one government in Memphis...not a city/county set-up...but just a Shelby County government running the whole show. (incorporated cities like Germantown/Collierville/Bartlett would still be independent)

But I see no need for a City and County mayor...2 PDs...2 Councils...etc

It would give Republicans more say, and I'm fine with that...but the GOPers don't want it because while city tax would drop, county tax would rise.

It looks like Republicans are now taking control of the Black community in Memphis. How does that make your feel?

The message that religious, african-american, republicans have a long history of losing to Memphis Democrats has been heard loud and clear...

No they are serving high ranking positions in Washington. It seems like Memphis is a hotbed for Black conservatives.

I say you live in an extremely conservative state in the Bible Belt.

TN is a very conservative State, while Memphis is a very liberal city...your own data showed, even with the county Republicans from Germantown/Collierville/Lakeland voting, Shelby county still went 63% Democrat.

I say build a new capital on the border of Alabama, Tennessee, and Georgia. Yes, right in the mountains and on the Tennessee river. Chattanooga could be a suburb.

Because they spent much of the 20th century putting policies in place to separate themselves from the rest of the south. It resulted in higher education levels, higher incomes, and more diversified economies.

NC has always made higher education a huge priority and that is a big part of the reason why NC is a leader in finance, tech, pharmaceuticals, etc. while our neighbor to the south has no major cities and whose wealthiest areas are those that leech off the success of Charlotte. If Charlotte were 30 miles north of its current location, SC would have seen significantly less growth than it has.

Twentieth Century huh? South Carolina was the Textile Capital of the World. Just 70 years ago, or less, Charlotte was a small town.

Mecklenburg County has nothing to do with Boeing, BMW, Textile, Michelin, Milliken, ICAR, all in SC.

Perhaps you've heard of ATL.?

Outside of Charleston & Hilton Head, there is not ONE desirable location to visit/live in South Carolina.

Don't get me wrong... I LOVE your politics in SC. Love them to death. But Columbia is a dump... Greenville is a dump... Spartanburg is a dump...Myrtle Beach is a HORRENDOUS dump (like post-Mexican food dump) Clemson is really nice, but is too small of a town to count... North Augusta, SC is ok.

But I do recognize that North Charleston has a MASSIVE Boeing facility. Kudos for that.
