Georgia Tech (not Miami) and the Coastal Division Title
Miami beating Duke was the first step for the Hurricanes to an ACC title appearance....Georgia Tech beating Virginia Tech was huge too....

Miami has never appeared in the ACC Title game, but I think they have a chance this year....

Beating Georgia Tech this weekend wouldn't put them in the lead in the Standings, but it would put them in great position

RE: Miami and the Coastal Division Title
Nope.

GT will beat Miami by 20. QB Justin Thomas, surprisingly, is more accurate than anything I saw out of Duke's Anthony Boone in the last 3 weeks, and as soon as Miami commits 9 players in the box (somewhere late in the 1st quarter), the chess match is over.

In fact, I'm pretty sure I'll have to resist the temptation to rename this thread, "Georgia Tech and the Coastal Division Title" at around 10:45 on Saturday night.

RE: Miami and the Coastal Division Title
I've got Miami in the pick 'em. Miami will be the first team GT has faced this year good enough to not let GT get away with some of its suicidal tendencies. So the question is ... do you think PJ cleaned it up enough with a bye week? If GT plays clean and executes at even 55% in the pass game they'll win. But so far this year they've played decidedly unclean and despite the wealth of production in the passing game compared to Vad and Tevin ... they are still leaving TDs on the field every week. They left 14 on the field against VT just in the passing game.

I reserve the option to change my mind based on reports from practice and beat writers ...... but right now I think this is the week the huge amount of youth GT starts comes home to roost.

If Miami does win, their margin for error is zero since they play FSU. If GT wins the Coastal is over.

Yeah, okay, sure. Miami will be the best team GT has played this year, and if history is any indication we won't screw up against GT but someone like UVA or Pitt.

GT will lose to Miami + Clemson
Miami will lose to VT + FSU
VT will not lose again until the ACC CG (and maybe not even then?)

I have GT losing to Miami and Clemson... Miami losing to FSU and UVA... VT losing to UVA. Thus GT is the Coastal Champs.

Yea, I know you don't like it. But ask yourself this question: how good do you feel about Brewer passing in the face of Tenuta bringing the heat every single down?

RE: Miami and the Coastal Division Title
So I'm going to this game. The GTAA cold called me for more tickets yesterday. It has been a whiteout since before the season started. It is also faculty appreciation day where GT faculty can get stupid cheap tickets. And the GTAA did an e-blast today for family packs at $35/ticket with concession vouchers.

I looked and the upper north deck is still about half empty.

I'd guess the game will end around 50,000 in attendance despite the marketing full court press. Same attendance figure as Georgia Southern (which only hit 50K because Southern brought around 10K fans).

When PJ can't sell it out on a game that decides the division with a full court marketing press ... that tells you how deep his support eroded over the last four years. This is probably the most important game Paul Johnson has had at GT for his future.

I predict a good game & that I'll be watching. Not sure who to root for but since the Cards beat Miami I guess I should pull for them.

Last season Duke lost its first two conference games -- and then won the next six to win the Coastal championship. I don't mention this history in order to predict that Duke will once again win the Coastal championship. I mention it to remind everyone that it's the first day of October. No team has been eliminated from the Coastal chase. Any lead that any team has now or after this Saturday's games may turn out to be meaningless.

Miami has played 1 game in the coastal. I wouldn't crank up the bandwagon yet.

If GT wins the Coastal is over.
