What a great addition for the Sun Belt.

It is a shame that they are not eligible for a bowl this year, because they look like they could hang with most established FBS schools, and they would probably put a real scare into whomever they played.

Thanks! Glad to be here, and it's going to be fun playing so many teams for the first time, or the first time in a long time.

Sorry, didn't realize there was a tendency for these threads to go down the toilet.

As an ECU fan, I'm just happy when up-and-coming college-town teams make a splash.

Good luck the rest of the year.

Inviting GaSouthern into the belt is like inviting a wolf into the hen house. They are going to feast then do a lot of howling..That being said, they are already good and are just going to get better with more numbers, a fertile recruiting ground, and a rabid fan base..I fully expect them to make alot of National noise in the next few years....

They're good, very good but South Alabama wasn't prepared for how good they were when we played them. The Jaguars are a better team than what they showed that day. Georgia Southern is a fun team to watch except when your team plays 'em.

not your fault. A couple people have made threads about GS being a good team or w/e it may be and non GS fans get their feathers ruffled and say we aren't that good yet, and that we will falter the rest of the season, then our fans debate against that, and then the whole thread turns to crap. lol

Again, I think I speak for both GS and App, we are grateful and excited to be chosen to fill the available spaces left by the departed teams in the SunBelt. I hope we add positively to the conference for many years to come.

A couple of things...

1. I'm glad that some SBC outsiders understand that our success so far reflects more on us as a program and is not an embarrassment for the league. If anyone out there thinks it's bad for a first-year FBS team to be relevant in a G5 league, remind them of what Marshall and Nevada did in other leagues with established FBS/I-A programs.

2. Don't forget about App State. We just happen to have (thank goodness) things more together as a program at the moment. Their football program will also be an asset to the league. They are no more a typical move-upper than we are.

I will say however, that I wish that Georgia Southern was entering the league maybe a couple years earlier when we still had very good MTSU and WKU programs hanging around, and tried to win the SBC in what was probably our best year as a league.

Admittedly, the entire league being down virtually is surprising, but I think my deepest regret is that GS is seeing NMSU, Idaho, and a Georgia State rather than some of our more classic teams.

We'll get a better reflection in a couple years as the other league members start to improve.

That really would have been awesome if we could have gotten in a few years back, although I am glad we didn't, because depending on how far back "a few years" is, we may not have been anywhere near as competitive.

I said it before the season that I am glad we have the weaker schedule, merely to act as a soft intro into the league. give us a year to acclimate to some of the teams and essentially give us a year to get some of our depth up. Sure, it would be great to play state and ULL to see how we measure up, but I would gladly take a conference or co conference title without having to play them if we are able to go on a run and pull that off. That would help us a ton with recruiting.

Aside from some of the crazy posters, I feel I speak for most gs fans here when I say I am just thrilled to be playing in the FBS, and thrilled to see our team representing ourselves and the SBC well.

2012 would have been a great year to begin SBC play.

2012 would have been a great year to begin SBC play.

It was a golden year for SBC football in a way. MTSU won 8, ULM won 8, WKU won 7, ULL won 8, and AState won 9 to take the title. Attendance was up league wide, with AState pulling two Standing Room only crowds in late November and December, which is virtually unheard of here.

Got 4 teams in bowls, and ULM got in a bowl game and Louisiana Tech didn't. It was a great year.

Thanks Chappy. Since I started following Southern in the early 2000's I've looked at ECU and Southern Miss (not so much recently) as role models for what we could become. I see a lot of similarities between your program and what we want ours to be. We may not have the market, but we have the players and the pedigree and a bunch of crazy fans.

Chiefsfan, I think there will be more good times for the SBC as we all will raise the bar. I'm happy we are in the SBC and look forward to some OOC play against folks like ECU, I was in Greenville, many years ago where I think there was 1000+ yards of offense between the two teams and GS lost a close one. It's nice to have real fanbases to interact with other than just App on a weekly basis, South Alabama was a great first opponent and I look forward to visiting each of the SBC stadiums.
