Haha....James Dickey is our OC.
For Memphis, Larry Porter.
That would be Darrell Dickey...James Dickey is a basketball coach.

Larry Porter for sure....but also Rey Dempsey who succeeded Rex Dockery. He just wasn't equipped to be a head coach at the top level of college football,

(09-14-2014 09:24 AM)baruna falls Wrote: The AAC is suffering from a perfect storm of bad hires at Head Coach at the moment imo. SMU, Tulsa, Houston and maybe USF, look to have hired or held on to the people longer than they should have. The timing of these bad hires however, could not have come at a worse time for the AAC. The good news is that all of these schools have the means and history to change course and turn things around. This is why even though the AAC might be having a down year in football is a bummer, there is no need to believe that this will be the norm. Most of the schools in the AAC, especially the ones suffering from down years, have great foundational planks to move forward with.
Was really surprised for example that Houston hired Levine to take Sumlin's place. Levine imo has been way over his head since the start. Houston represents a very appealing place for a coach to land, and the Houston admin should have spent more time finding a better replacement for Sumlin. Houston should have no problem next time around finding a coach with Texas High School ties, is a good recruiter and takes advantage of the very good talent and fan base that Houston has.
SMU will also be an appealing place for a coach. The announcers at the Va Tech/ECU game said the same thing. SMU should be looking for the same type of hire that Houston gets. Both , Houston and SMU, if given a chance with the right guy, should be very competitive most years. Heck look at what North Texas has done with a good coach and very average Texas high school players. If North Texas can do it, then SMU and Houston should be able to do it even better than the Green Wave
Tulsa hiring a high school coach to become a head college coach looked like a bad idea to me from the start. I know BB has a great reputation for being a nice guy, but is it clear BB does not know how to recruit or win at the college level. Tulsa has access to both Texas and Oklahmoa athletes. No reason to beleive that they will not recover from their current down streak with the right coach.
USF, to be honest is a mystery to me. Willie Taggert did very good at WKU, so I have no idea what is happening at USF right now. College Football more than any other sport imo, is dependent on the hiring of a good head coach to make things work. Maybe Taggert just needs more time, but USF certainly has more appeal than any other G5 Florida school except for UCF.
Doesn't always turn out bad. Look at one Art Briles. He was a Texas high school coach before taking over Houston wasn't he?

I know for ECU football it's He Who Shall Not Be Named that "coached" from 2003-2004 compiling and impress 3-20 record with epic nail biting wins over Army (x2) and Tulane.

Yes, and in basketball Ed Badger and Tony Yates. 15 years between NCAA tourney appearances before Huggy Bear showed up to put the Bearcats back in the Final Four.

If i saw him on the street today, i would spit in his face.. Then turn myself in to the authorities....
ecu pirate
You have to give him some credit for the recruiting. Guys like Chris Johnson would have never been here had he was not. Davon Drew, Pierre Bell, Josh Coffman, Patrick Pinkney, Zach Slate, Travis Williams, Marcus Hands, Quention Cotten etc in two classes ended up being big parts of good teams as seniors.

The name that shall not be named couldnt coach worth a lick but the man had a mean powerpoint presentation. I seriously in all of my years have never seen a person so incompetent and accepting losing. Jt and the coaches were actually shocked they got fired and that they needed more time to run us into the ground.

The worst was punting in basically the redzone vs Memphis in a game we lost by 3 points if I remember correctly.

We were losing by 40 to someone and there was only 10 seconds left. Yet JT decided to call 3 timeouts in a row.....

Runner up Steve Addazio and his 1920's offense. He got lucky with Bernard. Montel Harris was fine, but nowhere near Bernard. Over 2x as many rushes as passes was a disaster. His Florida connections got us nothing too. You have Rod Streater and he only has 19 receptions? Ugh.

RE: Your schools biggest coaching hire FAILS
We had three very bad coaches at Temple that could make the list in Wallace, Dickerson and Bernt. I am going to give the title to Wallace for several reasons. I feel that his last two or three years he was stealing money by not putting out a real effort. At least Dickerson at one point tried to quit but for some strange reason we wouldn't let him.
Yes, Wallace got one upset win but admitted that it was luck. All these coaches were just terrible but we got booted from the Big East on Wallace's watch so he gets the nod.
