Just wondering who you'd consider your teams biggest coaching hire FAIL. Basketball or football.
I know for ECU football it's He Who Shall Not Be Named that "coached" from 2003-2004 compiling and impress 3-20 record with epic nail biting wins over Army (x2) and Tulane.

He should not be named AND Ricky Stokes. You can't tell me that is the only person who would've come to coach for Terry Holland at that point.

1. James Dickey - It's unbelievable we dusted off that fossil, when we were coming off an NCAA appearance.
2 I hope it wont be Tony Levine, but - like Dickey - his resume is far from what you'd expect after coming off the Sumlin years.
too many to mention, but since the 80s: Wally English, Greg Davis, Buddy Teevins, Bob Toledo, Chris Scelfo (in contrast to Mack Brown, Tommy Bowden and, hopefully, CJ).

The AAC is suffering from a perfect storm of bad hires at Head Coach at the moment imo. SMU, Tulsa, Houston and maybe USF, look to have hired or held on to the people longer than they should have. The timing of these bad hires however, could not have come at a worse time for the AAC. The good news is that all of these schools have the means and history to change course and turn things around. This is why even though the AAC might be having a down year in football is a bummer, there is no need to believe that this will be the norm. Most of the schools in the AAC, especially the ones suffering from down years, have great foundational planks to move forward with.
Was really surprised for example that Houston hired Levine to take Sumlin's place. Levine imo has been way over his head since the start. Houston represents a very appealing place for a coach to land, and the Houston admin should have spent more time finding a better replacement for Sumlin. Houston should have no problem next time around finding a coach with Texas High School ties, is a good recruiter and takes advantage of the very good talent and fan base that Houston has.
SMU will also be an appealing place for a coach. The announcers at the Va Tech/ECU game said the same thing. SMU should be looking for the same type of hire that Houston gets. Both , Houston and SMU, if given a chance with the right guy, should be very competitive most years. Heck look at what North Texas has done with a good coach and very average Texas high school players. If North Texas can do it, then SMU and Houston should be able to do it even better than the Green Wave
Tulsa hiring a high school coach to become a head college coach looked like a bad idea to me from the start. I know BB has a great reputation for being a nice guy, but is it clear BB does not know how to recruit or win at the college level. Tulsa has access to both Texas and Oklahmoa athletes. No reason to beleive that they will not recover from their current down streak with the right coach.
USF, to be honest is a mystery to me. Willie Taggert did very good at WKU, so I have no idea what is happening at USF right now. College Football more than any other sport imo, is dependent on the hiring of a good head coach to make things work. Maybe Taggert just needs more time, but USF certainly has more appeal than any other G5 Florida school except for UCF.
Think should look better next year for SMU and Tulsa. Ive got to think Taggart wins with the talent he recruited last year.
Levine probably keeps his job with a 7-5 season.

Nooooooooo, not at 7-5. We have taken a huge step back already. The guy has lost to Texas State and UTSA. Perhaps the two worst losses since the dark days of Kim Helton (worst coach).
And he has done this while having better resources, conference and new stadium. It is a shame.
I would say Dickey was the worst, but I also had to sit through Alvin Brooks teams in BB

Few, if any, Memphis fans would dispute that. An unqualified coach inheriting a talent-thin program was the perfect recipe for long-term damage, but as Fuente said the day he arrived, "Memphis football has been strong before and will be again".

He couldn't have been that bad if he didn't lose to Army in our worst years!

Yes, and in basketball Ed Badger and Tony Yates. 15 years between NCAA tourney appearances before Huggy Bear showed up to put the Bearcats back in the Final Four.
