All I was saying was comparing us to the worst of the MAC is unfair, I probably overreacted.

They know exactly who NIU is, and that we are one of the best non-AQ's. They are just *ssholes touting their favorite products.

I enjoy every NIU victory. But also think we've played a very weak schedule the past few years. You say I'm a tough one. I'd prefer to think of it as being objective.

I agree on being thicker skinned, but do we need the media to say "bad mac team" to know what they are implying? They use "MAC team" as a synonym for inferior.

RE: ESPNU's Final Verdict basically grouped us with the whole MAC
Always love how the big 5 coaches, fans, media are bias. Yet, the "goal" seen by most is to expand a stadium and join one.
Then we get madder when someone groups NIU with crappy MAC teams, which we have had our way many times in the last few years.
So should we stay in the MAC? Or do we just want B5 to acknowledge and praise us.
And when some do praise us, it's not sincere or they are still a$$holes when they pick against us or knock the conference.
Believe me, I have heard enough knocking of the B10 the last 2 days for their performance on tv/radio. I have heard people call for Spurrier's head. Every yr LSU fans want Miles head when he loses to Bama.
Are people ever happy and see things in the present and enjoy success and stf up about B5, join the B12 after every damn win!

Could everyone just take a chill pill......we are in a mid-major conference, so we're not seen as one of the BIG BOYS. But we have shown that we can beat Big 10 schools, albeit lower rung programs. I'm proud of what the HUSKIES program has achieved over the past 10 yr. Yes, my perspective is colored by the fact that I went to NIU back in the 60's when we weren't even a blip on the radar screen. Having said that, I'm proud to be an NIU grad and I promote our team and our conference down here in Texas every chance I get. When I look to the future, I see an AD that has stepped up and signed some solid home and home matchups.....a football venue that has added the Yordon Center and the Chessick practice center!!!

Yes, agreed....and let us not forget we didn't beat FSU like Boise beat Oklahoma.....these things take a lot of time and so far this has been. Fantastic ride

RE: ESPNU's Final Verdict basically grouped us with the whole MAC
You're going to get that -- it's more of reporting to emphasize the B1G looking bad -- so they're going to say that in a piece like that. They're not going to refer to NIU as "a MAC team" in every context at all if they keep winning.
Quote:1) Build a bigger stadium, and
2) Join a bigger conference.
Yes, for #2 to happen, you need #1 to happen first.
I would imagine under normal circumstances, you'd need 30k+ a game very consistently to be considered to go to American Athletic. From there, expand again and get 40k+ to join one of the big conferences.
IMO, it's not going to happen. NIU could go to a now depleted CUSA, but what's that going to do? Technically more conference money (at least several years ago it was) -- but not a tougher schedule every year though.
All in all, NIU has respect. They really do. I think that report was just to punk the B1G, not with any intent of scoffing at the MAC (that was just an inadvertent mini-slap).

I don't think we will get any respect until we pick a starting qb.

WOAH WOAH SLOW DOWN!!! Lets not be too rational or realistic here!! You mean we should be happy with our progress?!
Last year at the MAC championship at the end of the game, I saw a NIU fan go berserk and beat the crap out of a chair... I think many people here need to come back down to earth. Just enjoy the football and who cares about what the media says, what matters is that you enjoy going/watching the games yourselves!

The fact that we've gotten 5 votes in the coaches poll after beating a bad FCS school and a bad Big Whatever team tells us that we've gotten respect at least from some pollsters - we'll never get that respect from E$PN but who the hell cares, they have an obvious bias, screw them.

No AP votes, and 5 coaches votes which probably means 2 coaches voted NIU 23 and 24. I don't call that much respect. After 16 wins road wins in a row, NIU should get the benefit of the doubt. Can you imagine if this was Boise and Boise beat Northwestern and started 2-0. Boise would be a top 10 team lol

Because Boise won a BCS game and were briefly ranked in the top 10. So they get the benefit of the doubt.
Most of the wins have been against bad teams. It's still an impressive streak (or streaks) and about as good as we can expect with the schedule they have. How many votes should we have for beating what you would say yourself is a bottom team in a bad conference?

I think what NIU has done is up to the Boise level, at the minimum. This is sustained success over a 15 year period, with plenty of big wins, and Boise got more than their fair sure of easy wins. Whats sad is what Boise did 8 years ago is more important than what NIU has sone the past 5 years, its a joke. But then again, why do we even care about rankings when a Michigan team can get shut out by 31 to 0 score and still get votes, its a complete and utter joke, even moreso now.

If Miami (OH) beat Northwestern they would have 0 votes. It works both ways.
