RE: WKU - places to eat question
Smokey pig BBQ just off of Louisville Rd is numero uno in my mind, best in show. Mariah's is a local legend, newly moved into a new location (along with an excellent sports bar, mexican, asian, and italian places all great). There is a BBQ place at the river end of College St. do not know the name, but great food. Burger and Bun. Rafferty's is a Bowling Green original and always good, they also own Double Dog's Sports bar which is a great choice. Really just depends on what you are looking for. Lost River Pizza if you want that, or Mister B's has good pizza too.
For sweet eats check out the Great American Donut shop and Riley's Bakery.

BBQ - without a doubt do Smokey Pig. If you are coming up the interstate then get off at exit 28, it is where Louisville Rd meets Old Louisville Rd over to the left:

Breakfast, if you are staying around exit 22 there are tons of standard places there, IHop, Bob Evans, Waffle House, etc.
oh yeah, wild eggs just opened on Campbell ln, haven't been but hearing great things.

Smokey Pig is a must for BBQ. Has been featured on the Food Network. Looks like an absolute dump, but is delicious. They carry "Monroe County" style BBQ, which is famous for its vinegar based sauce. Get the Shoulder Plate "dipped". You'll thank me later.
As for breakfast Judy's Castle is my personal favorite in town. Another hole in the wall place located right on the old 31W that runs through town fairly close to campus. It's basically just a good old fashioned diner, with EXCELLENT food.
Other options would be Wild Eggs or Home Cafe. Both are very good. Not as hole-in-the-wallis has Judy's. I believe Home Cafe is only open for brunch on Sundays. May depend on what time you are leaving town.

BBQ and fixing elections. The only things we are good at.

RE: WKU - places to eat question
Is the vinegar sauce at Smokey Pig like the Carolina types - vinegar twang w/ a little pepper chaser or something else? We've a place called Saw's that has a vinegar sauce but it's a vinegar twang w/ sweet from cane juice w/ pepper heat chaser. I'm mostly a fan of KC style tomato based but do like the odd vinegar types don't like the white mayo based sauces. I'll probably be staying in the 231/Scottsville Rd exit area since that seems to have most hotels but haven't got reservations done yet

For out flow traffic after the game, staying at the 3rd exit (corvette plant, do not know the number) is your best bet. It takes for ever to get down Scottsville rd.

Kansas City is the rub, correct? Not sure where you go for that around here.
Another couple of suggestions are Split Tree which is out 231. You could then go to the game by going up the Natcher Parkway.
And I read on the WKU message board that they added Moonlight BBQ in the stadium which I have not personally had but some people swear by. Have any WKU fans tried the Moonlight in the stadium?

Might just be first game jitters, but did not get a good report.
As for Monroe COunty style, I have never had anything like it. It is very unique to my knowledge. It is not sweet, it has some heat to it. Wouldn't call it peppery but has some heat. Hard to describe, need to try it.

I'll throw in my 2 cents. For breakfast check out The Lunch Box downtown. Smoky Pig is easily the best BBQ place. Easily. Montana Grill would be my choice for a nicer sit down dinner.

This was a good post to see because I will be in Bowling Green tomorrow afternoon on Business. I think I will try Whitts because it is close to the hotel, and I have a lot of stuff to do. Thanks for the suggestions guys.

My dad tried it and said it was horrible and they ran out of most of everything by halftime....Makes sense to me.....Always thought moonlight was overrated on their meat....I always liked their vegetables and other stuff at the actual restaurant....WHen I think of Moonlight, I do not think of bringing cold food somewhere and heating it up...

Smokey Pig blows.... Whitts is way better.
I can't believe all you guys are giving the visiting fans chain restaurant names....Montana Grill, Rafferty's, Double Dogs, Wild Eggs, Mister B's.
For original restaurants head downtown. Try Burgr and Bun for gourmet hamburgers and their dauphine potatoes. Or Entourage is a very good tapas bar.
For something fancier 440, The Bistro, or Verde are all very good fine dining places.
Lost River Pizza is a great place to get a beer and pizza.
