Little secret... I now root for ACC teams to be successful and have a tendency to actually follow them. 04-jawdrop

Also, in contrast to Kaplony, I realized Notre Dame helps in the ACC receiving better Bowls.

No. No they are not.

80% of revenue comes from football.....they don't share that like the 'rest of the family', so no, they aren't even close.

Their own fans think of themselves as independent....why would we think any differently?

When they share $$$$ like the rest of the ACC...THEN we can talk about family.

By your definition Wake Forest wouldn't be family either because they really don't contribute to that "80%" you describe.

Being family, at least to me, is a little more than just football.

This is a subjective argument. Let's compare the two sides:

2013

#1 Discover Orange Bowl.
#2 The Chick-fil-A Bowl versus SEC #5.
#3 The Russell Athletic Bowl versus AAC #2.
#4 The Hyundai Sun Bowl versus Pac-12 #4. (Contractually obligated to select ACC Championship Game runner-up, if still available.)
#5 The Belk Bowl versus AAC #3.
#6 The Music City Bowl versus SEC #7.
#7 The AdvoCare V100 Bowl versus SEC #10.
#8 The Military Bowl versus Conference USA #6.
#9 The Fight Hunger Bowl versus Pac-12 #6 (BYU has an agreement in place to be first selection for Fight Hunger bowl; ACC fills slot only if BYU is not bowl eligible).

2014 - 2019

****CFB Playoffs
1) Discover Orange Bowl, Miami, Fla.
2) Russell Athletic Bowl, Orlando, Fla.
Capital One Bowl, Orlando, Fla. (conditional with B1G)
Hyundai Sun Bowl, El Paso, Texas
Belk Bowl, Charlotte, N.C.
Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl, Nashville, Tenn. (split with B1G)
Taxslayer.com Gator Bowl, Jacksonville, Fla. (split with B1G)
New Era Pinstripe Bowl, New York City.
Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman, Annapolis, Md.
AdvoCare V100 Bowl, Shreveport, La.
Detroit Bowl, Detroit
Beef ‘O’Brady’s Bowl, St. Petersburg, Fla.
Birmingham Bowl, Birmingham, Ala.

The biggest differences are :
1) better opponents in the top tier bowls.
2) Russell Bowl is paying for the right to move up in the pecking order (because they love ND)
3) ND agreement with the OB allows ACC to get 41 mil during the years they're in it
4) Pinstripe bowl was added to the mix. It's probably one you don't like but a lot of people love to go to NY during the Christmas holidays.

Debatable. Depending on how the playoff selection goes we could end up with the #4 or #5 SEC pick, or the #3 Big 10 pick in the Orange.

Depending on the playoff selections we could end up with the #3 or #4 Big XII team in the Russell Athletic.

Quote:2) Russell Bowl is paying for the right to move up in the pecking order (because they love ND)
Got a link to the Russell Athletic increasing it's payout?

Quote:3) ND agreement with the OB allows ACC to get 41 mil during the years they're in it
So there's one benefit. It has nothing to do with them being a member, but I'll grant you one. 1-2 so far.

Quote:4) Pinstripe bowl was added to the mix. It's probably one you don't like but a lot of people love to go to NY during the Christmas holidays.
It's a garbage bowl in a cold weather town in a baseball stadium.

And the key point is we already had arrangements with the Orange and Russell Athletic. They weren't going to go anywhere else because there as nowhere else to go. So the original question stands.....what great bowls did Notre Dame bring to the ACC?

How can you say the Pinstripe Bowl is a garbage bowl?

High Payout, ACC advertising on Yankee Broadcasts throughout the season, game against a B1G team, keeps the ACC Brand in NYC.

1. Hotel and airfare prices are sky high because of the season

2. It's friggin' cold and usually either raining or snowing that time of year. Enjoyable if you are on a ski slope, not so much if you are sitting in a stadium for 3+ hours

3. New York City doesn't care about college football normally, and God help us get any attention if the Giants or Jets are in playoff contention about that time.

4. It's a damn baseball stadium. It has poor football sight lines.

Let's start with the Pinstripe. I figured you wouldn't like that, but you are in the minority. Christmas to New Years in NYC is awesome.

I do not have a link to the actual payout since none of the bowls have announced them yet. However, it is widely believe the Russell upped the ante to be second behind the Orange Bowl. We all know Notre Dame isn't falling much beyond that in most years.

As for better opponents, you don't think the #5 team in the SEC is worthy to be in the OB? That team could be Bama, Auburn, A&M, LSU, or Georgia this year. There's so little separation between the top teams, who cares if it's #2 or #5.

Basically with ND in tow, most bowl committees improved their perception of the conference. The agreements were done before last years FSU and Clemson wins. You're just being old school. Embrace a little change even if it means throwing a little love at the Irish.

And the key point is we already had arrangements with the Orange and Russell Athletic. They weren't going to go anywhere else because there as nowhere else to go. So the original question stands.....what great bowls did Notre Dame bring to the ACC?

Let's start with the Pinstripe. I figured you wouldn't like that, but you are in the minority. Christmas to New Years in NYC is awesome.

For some it might be. For others they would rather spend the holidays somewhere it isn't freezing, isn't astronomically expensive, and when they go to the game they want to have good sight lines.

Quote:I do not have a link to the actual payout since none of the bowls have announced them yet. However, it is widely believe the Russell upped the ante to be second behind the Orange Bowl. We all know Notre Dame isn't falling much beyond that in most years.

So it's an assumption. Just like it was an assumption that because the ACC controlled the rights to the orange Bowl we would get a higher payout than the SEC/B1G. How did that work out again?

And how does it benefit the ACC when the parasites take our #2 bowl? It's bad enough we downgraded from the Chick-fil-a to the Russell Athletic for our #2, it only gets worse when our top non-playoff/Orange Bowl team gets stuck in Charlotte or El Paso.

Quote:As for better opponents, you don't think the #5 team in the SEC is worthy to be in the OB? That team could be Bama, Auburn, A&M, LSU, or Georgia this year. There's so little separation between the top teams, who cares if it's #2 or #5.

If the SEC maintains it's current depth nothing. If it doesn't it's going to be great to be facing an 8 win Florida team.

I also notice you skipped the fact that half the time we will be facing the crippled Big 10.

Quote:Basically with ND in tow, most bowl committees improved their perception of the conference. The agreements were done before last years FSU and Clemson wins. You're just being old school. Embrace a little change even if it means throwing a little love at the Irish.

So we downgraded out #2 bowl from a premiere bowl with an exclusive New Year's Eve slot and with a premiere payout to the kid sister of the Capital One Bowl, and with a Dec 29th at 5:30 PM time slot.

We now have not one but two bowls in baseball stadiums. We also have exotic locales to visit like Detroit and Shreveport.

One of our bowls is against the AAC in one of their home stadiums.

I guess it could be worse. Gary, Indiana and Portland, Maine don't have bowls or else we could have ended up there.

RE: So Notre Dame considered ACC family?
We didn't downgrade. The playoffs took the Peach Bowl. Just like they took the Cotton Bowl from the Big 12/SEC.

Orlando hosts two bowls and by rule they can only be so close together. So the Russell gets the earlier timeslot.

Do we ever think the SEC would be so down that there'd be an 8 win Florida team in the OB? You must be kidding. We both know that's not happening anytime soon.

Even if it's against the B1G, that would mean Michigan, Ohio State, Mich State, Penn St or Wisconsin. Still attractive matchups.

If Notre Dame takes the Russell they have to share the revenue with the ACC. The only time ND doesn't share is if they get picked by one of the playoff committee bowls.

The following locations: Shreveport, Birmingham, Memphis are for SEC bowls. So does that mean the SEC got crappy locations too?

So it is the lesser of the two bowls. I understand that perfectly.

It's not outside the realm of reality. It likely would have happened had the arrangement been in place in 2007.

Quote:Even if it's against the B1G, that would mean Michigan, Ohio State, Mich State, Penn St or Wisconsin. Still attractive matchups.
Only if they are highly ranked. Beating the corpse of Nebraska football does nothing for the ACC.

The Orange Bowl should have never ties in with another conference unless it was able to obtain the highest ranked opponent not in the playoff. It should have went after the highest ranked opponent available regardless of conference.

Quote:If Notre Dame takes the Russell they have to share the revenue with the ACC. The only time ND doesn't share is if they get picked by one of the playoff committee bowls.
The revenue deal is fine. The fact that we could have a 9 or 10 win #2 ACC team stuck in Charlotte playing a probably 6 or 7 win SEC team is the problem. Or even worse, they could be stuck in El Paso.

Quote:The following locations: Shreveport, Birmingham, Memphis are for SEC bowls. So does that mean the SEC got crappy locations too?

With the exception of Memphis, yes. Nothing tops Detroit as far as horrible bowl locations, however. We would have been better off going after Boise again.

Of course on the SEC side chances are they see an SEC team maybe once or twice a decade.

Now that we have dealt with your rhetoric, I still have yet to be informed what great bowls Notre Dame brought to the table.

But you can't get rid of them...charter member

Being a charter member has nothing to do with it.

So the playoff taking the Chick-fil-a prevented us from going after a better bowl than the kid sister of the Capital One? What exactly are we paying Tarhole Johnny to do anyway?

This is all crazy talk. So what other bowls do you propose the ACC SHOULD have gotten?

The ACC shouldn't have it's #2 team win only 9 games. If it does, it doesn't deserve to go to a higher bowl.

"Only if they are highly ranked"....that's the whole point of the agreement. They have to be highly ranked.

The fact of the matter is you're never going to agree on what ND has brought to the table. You are ONE fan of ONE team. You don't like Detroit. You don't like NY for bowls. You must have forgotten that a number of the teams in the conference are northern teams.
