ECU has a 43% chance of upsetting VT in Blacksburg...
per the Payne College Football Power Ratings

It's an interesting ranking system because it also predicts the odds for all team's chance of winning their next game ('PWin' column). It has both UCF & ECU in the top 35 despite both team's respective early season setbacks.

http://knology.net/~brucepayne/PayneRatings.htm

The Payne College Football Power Ratings use a composite of two different systems, a Predict or margin of victory based system, and a W/L or Win/Loss only system. The ratings in each system are computed independently, and then a weighted average is used to combine the two ratings. The weighting adjusts throughout the season from using a higher weight for the Predict at the beginning of the season to a lower weight for the Predict by the end of the season. Since there is relatively little data at the beginning of the season, considering the margins of victory is needed to have sufficient data to make the ratings meaningful. By the end of the season, more data is available and teams are more rewarded for their on-the-field record than on margins of victory. Thus the overall ratings are the best system when determining how teams should be ranked based on actual game performance. However, the predict model is better when it comes to predicting the outcome of future games.

Have to give the Hokies an edge playing at home, but I'd be very surprised if they are able to sustain their intensity and performance from yesterday.

Wouldn't losing to ECU a week after beating tOSU be a very Beamer thing to do?

I hope we pull it off but I'm still dejected after last year's loss to them. If we can't beat them at home when they have a terrible QB, how will we beat them on the road when their passing game looks much improved?

I will say that the team responded really well after losses last year, so hopefully they can keep that trend going.

I think VT has to be a big favorite especially coming off the Ohio State win.

Not saying ECU cannot win, just that i question whatever analysis says they have such a good chance to do so. I do not see what is so compelling about the pretty close loss to SC that puts them in the same statistical category as VT dumping the Buckeyes on the road.

Given Bud Foster's history of taking Lincoln Rileys lunch money and Lincoln being able to do nothing about it. Plus the fact that defense punched OSU in the mouth time and again and there was nothing they could do about it makes this weekend a tall tall task for ECU. VT has lock down corners. They'll be able to play man and put more pressure on Shane. I am fully prepared to be wrong but after the offensive struggles against USC, it wont get any better Saturday in Blacksburg.

Gotta say I agree with you. VT was impressive beating OSU. Anytime you beat OSU at the horseshoe you've done something special I don't care who they have at QB.

ECU played toe to toe with South Carolina and had a real chance to win but didn't. I see a let down coming possibly and a rebound vs UNC at home for ECU.

It's hard to beat good teams on the road. ECU can win but VT is definitely the solid favorite playing at home.

At this point I'm hoping we can stay relatively healthy and beat UNC, 2-2 after four could still lead to a very good season.

If somehow UCF and ECU can pull of their upsets, it just might erase the AACs performance this past week.

I think one will happen, but I sincerely doubt we'll see two upsets as big as those.

I think UCF has the better chance given that theyre more rested and had an extra week to prepare. I saw nothing out of Mizzou this weekend that says they're world beaters.

It would be a huge win to beat Va. Tech this week but i just don't see it. They are much better than South Carolina. They would have to have a huge let down. I think UCF has a tough but solid shot at Missouri. I think we performed admirably against South Carolina but I've never felt less confident about going into a game than I do this week.

VT's QB is legit and their defense & skill position players are phenomenal athletes. It will be no easy task but we are capable and it would be a signature win for Ruff if he can pull it off.
