I can't believe no one here has mentioned this yet
A CFB Reddit Mod was updating the classifications of all the colleges that play CFB. He found that for some reason two colleges that were showing up in game scores were not part of any governing body. He did a little bit of digging and oddly enough he found that these two colleges were sister schools that are basically fake colleges operating some sort of scam.

Maybe I am missing something, but is there any real scam going on? Somebody has a fake website for a fake school. Whats the harm?

How much does a buy game pay out at the FCS, D2 and D3 levels? This could be quite the lucrative scam, especially when the 'students' are paying to play and getting very little in return.

Not much

Quote:On average, DII schools received $20,618 from their FCS opponents.
Quote:Additionally, an FCS school will pay another FCS for the game and travel, and we found in these games (over three seasons worth of data), FCS schools on average received $71,680 from their FCS peers, a considerably larger sum than the$20,618 that DII schools received.

There's a scam somewhere in here. The colleges charge admission and play other legitimate CFB teams as buy games.

Charging tuition and handing out a worthless degree is the scam.

someone in the reddit comments did a profile on these "colleges" URLs and found that they were registered by a blacklisted privacy protector site that operates primarily on behalf of criminals who commit scams.

Well, if the Fake University students get any kind of degree, that's more than they would get from any of those online universities that have microscopic graduation rates.

I'm gonna start a team. We'll start small by getting buy games against NAIA and JC schools but one day we'll work our to getting beaten by Texas an Alabama. Or heck, we can just play flag football in that case and each receive $1,000 for showing up, helping us and saving them money on a buy game.

I actually am an adjunct teacher at Tusculum. I was so proud to hear that the school won this game and broke this record, and it is a sad thing to learn the real circumstances behind the win.
