HMB question
To ZD, I suppose since I think you are the closest source...
The band really looked small last night. Are the numbers down this year compared to previous years? They sounded great but they sure seemed small in number.
Longing for a massive "Pride of the Midwest" showcase band....

RE: HMB question
To be honest, I am not totally sure. Given that, I would imagine that the ensemble is only about 10 members fewer than last year, if even that.
Sorry I couldn't be more accurate. As a graduate I'm not immediately privy to that info (though I can ask and update this answer).

RE: HMB question
The sound was not as big because all the small wind instruments were not being used...likely because of the rain I would guess. But yes I also agree that the numbers seemed smaller than last year.

RE: HMB question
Yeah, the band is slightly smaller than previous years. Mainly due to people's major classes kicking in (as much as we like band, we do have to graduate), but we're still kicking butts and taking names.
As far as the projection and amount of sound, like it was already said that was partially due to the woodwinds not being able to play because of the rain. Come Saturday though The Pride of the Midwest will be locked, loaded, and riding bicycles!!

RE: HMB question
If you remember, last year we commented about the size of the band and hoped that it would develop into something bigger and better. The sound is good, but the size of the band looks like a D3 school.

Yeah, the entirety of the woodwind sections were on the field without their instruments. Interesting lol.

Yeah. There is a plan in place with admissions, but the band still isn't giving away all of the scholarships. B1G schools, ISU, etc all draw from a similar base. There is a plan, and hopefully it will really begin an uptake soon.
