Homecoming is October 25 - ugh
Having our homecoming game the very end of October bothers me. I almost always try to go but might not this year. The weather often sucks for homecoming, but now that is almost a guarantee. Mid to end September is ideal, IMO. Weather is much better and for those that come from down south, the color change is a spectacular attraction. On Oct. 28 all the leaves will be on the ground, possibly covered with snow. It's just so much less appealing to me.
The weather might be good, but it likely will not be - and since it is unknown, you end up packing both warm and cold weather clothes. That pretty much assures that you will have to check an extra bag at the airport, adding another $60 to the cost. When your wife is already questioning how you can spend $600 + to go to a sporting event, every little bit hurts your case. Sorry to complain.
On a more positive note, the Bronco offense looked more creative than it has in years to me, and that is exciting.

My daughter was born on October 16, and when she came home from the hospital in 1972, there was 8 inches of snow on the ground. But then crisp late October football is the real deal IMO. Gloves, stadium coat, stocking cap, hot chocolate.

Homecoming is October 25 - ugh
Texas, I think the vast majority of homecoming games are in October. I can't think of one that has ever been in Sept...for any school. But I do understand what you mean. Hope you can make it back to kazoo without too much trouble and the weather is outstanding

RE: Homecoming is October 25 - ugh
We went to homecoming last year and it was as beautiful as possible, couldn't have asked for more from a mid October weekend. It's historically been a crap shoot at the end of the month, but lately the summers and warm falls have been longer.

RE: Homecoming is October 25 - ugh
As I recall last year we really lucked out with the weather for most of the home games. Not counting on it this year with 3 of the five games scheduled for 10/25, 11/15 & 11/28.
Went to a lot of Navy football games when I lived in Maryland (home was 20 min from the stadium). People would complain about the weather and I'd be thinking what great mild weather it was. Sat in a light rain one day and didn't mind at all as it was a warm rain. I kept thinking that these people should sit in a football stadium in Michigan in late Oct or Nov, if they think this is bad.
Now I'm dreading it.

Yes that's special most years in Michigan. Of all the seasons I really like fall the most. Cool, sunny, sweatshirt weather is the best.

Leaves will not all have fallen. October in East Campus can't be beat.

Fat bear, busy squirrels, long cold winter.
Hope you're right.

It should have been on Oct. 4th against Toledo.

I agree! Wonder if the U tries to schedule homecoming later in Oct in order to pump up attendance numbers as the weather starts getting colder. The early games seem to have the better attendance (Vs CMU being the exception). But than, is the attendance decline related to weather or performance on the field. I suspect both, with weather always being a big factor.

No, the game is 6 days before November. The leaves will be on the ground. I'll probably go, but I do wish the game was at least a couple weeks earlier. Considering the tailgate and everything, we'll be outside for 6 to 8 hours, or more. If the temperature is below freezing, that's asking a lot of someone with thin southern blood.
I tell my relatives who live up there not to waste their time visiting me in the summer when the temps can be 105+. They just wouldn't enjoy it. Conversely, I do not function as well in the cold weather as they do.

This is what it's been for us in the Chicago area. You get that sweet spot of about..... oh, 8-9 days from October 5th-14th where this is the most glorious place on Earth to live.
Ain't got much good to say about the other 354 days.

I hear this all the time about how Navy games have lots of empty seats (correct?) but yet I can never get free tickets. I continually kick myself over this.

We would just show up at and buy tickets from a scalper outside the stadium for less than face value. Usually ended up sitting on the upper deck in a retired officers section. Wife and I would be the youngest people there, and we're no spring chickens ourselves.
