ODU @ NCST Prediction Thread.
NCST is very young, but athletic and talented. IMO their Dline is still a question.
We are rated anywhere from 14 to an over 20 point underdog by most services and prognosticators.

I don't know that we are any better overall than real GSU, but we have Heinicke.

Based on that game, and what I think I saw vs HU (balanced attack, better than expected OL play; both with the rush and the pass, better than expected Dline play with 6 sacks and 9 yds rushing) I think we have a real chance to win this..

I don't think intensity will be a problem in this game.
If we can improve our tackling in the secondary, and scheme properly on pass defense then...............

ODU 38, NCST 35

Edit: I just read Bleed Blue, and ODUR8R really thinks the Wolfpack DL is their strength. He is not usually wrong, but I am sticking with my "homer" prediction.

RE: ODU @ NCST Prediction Thread.
We gave up a record 417 yards in the air to a bottom tier FCS team with a QB that is not very good. That does not bode well for us. I would think their defense overall is better than ours. So....it would probably be the best victory in recent ODU football history. I just hope we can get it done.

My seats don't allow me to see schemes so much and I haven't yet seen a video, but what I am hoping is that many of those HU passing yards were screens or slants and flats against a deep zone. Hence my comment about proper pass defense schemes.

RE: ODU @ NCST Prediction Thread.
I wouldnt say the Hampton QB is a bad Qb. He was solid and most of his throws were on the money. Also 75 of the yards were when we got caught with a screen pass on a blitz. I think the defense will be better than the past two years.

I think we will be in the game in the 4th quarter. 41-38 good guys.

That would be accurate. A screen and the fake end around were te only big palys i can remember giving up.

NC State 42, ODU 31

///////// 1Q - 2Q - 3Q - 4Q
US------07---14---07---03
THEM---00---14---14---14

Offense gets some points up, but never really breaks through.
Defense makes us feel really good early, but then its business as usual.

RE: ODU @ NCST Prediction Thread.
A collective soul is needed on defense. Somehow and someway. I am going to totally respect the Wolfpack, and reserve any prediction other than what Taylor Heinecke said after the game against Hampton U.: "If we play like we played tonight we don't stand a chance against NC State".

I say this is a clone of last years ECU game. We'll be in it, but they'll pull away in the 4th.

Game 2 NC State vs. ODU in Raleigh Sat. Sept. 6, 6:00 pm * TV ESPN 3 National

There was a time when I felt ODU may have a fair chance of winning this game. At this time I think the reality is that with a few of the problems the team has been hampered with, that opportunity may have slipped away. I hope I am wrong but at this time I really do not see the knock out punch that the offense can deliver to win this game. When I look at NC State’s Offensive line and defensive players the size differential clearly shows we still do not match up very well. Even though ODU is bigger and stronger this year, I think we are still a year away to win a game like this. Not to mention that the defense has yet to prove itself. The game may be an offensive battle from both.

Predicted Score NC State 45 ODU 35 * L

I hope I am wrong
, and I will be there to cheer them on.
Got to have better special teams play and if Heinicke and the receivers are on the same page that score could be flipped.

Sadly that is about how I see the final score. Our defense is still bottom tier FCS, IMO.

I agree with the score and a superior QB for ODU!

ODU 28
NCSU 38

We're competitive, but lose in the end similar to Pitt and ECU

We're not entering the game with 20+ injuries, so I think that shouldn't even come close to happening 04-chairshot

Wilder makes the team watch a 3 hour loop of Chael Sonnen interviews on the bus ride down. Consequently, the Monarchs believe they're the best in the business, beat NC State 31-14, and call out Jimbo Fisher after the game!
