5) Chuck Martin - Miami ???


I am talking about inheriting a dismal team and getting 6 wins.

Well what were their schedules like? Did they all face teams like Florida and Michigan State on top of the conference schedule?

When did Urban Meyer coach Miami? BGSU I remember...
Besides, I don't buy it. Brian Kelly won three consecutive DII titles at GVSU and won 4 games his first season at CMU. (Think of the recruiting network he must have had in place.)

Maybe on the defense, but I think this offense and the philosophy behind it are different - fitting the scheme to the players rather than visa-vera. English took a spread team and insisted they run a pro set. I never agreed with that move.

The two games weren't really similar at all. I don't see how the Morgan State game would remind anyone of the 2009 Army game, save for the fact that both opponents had a lot of rushing yards.

A friend of mine is a pro scout and met CC at a function when he was at Wabash. He came away very impressed. He had good things to say about CC when we hired him. He said he was very organized and reminded him of Gary Pinkel. Unfortunately, he was very unimpressed with the practice he watched sometime in August. He indicated that the sloppiness of the practice was on the coaches. Hopefully that practice was an anomaly. We'll see...

Creighton cannot be judged before season three. Not with the mess English left and three decades of failure behind that.

Like it or not, this team is more than a year away.

If we see steady improvement week to week, then we should all be satisfied. Many of us want a quick fix... But really, the RE era set us back even more. As long at the enthusiasm and effort are there throughout year one, then we should be alright.

Agree with that. CC has enough talent on offense to compete right now but the gaps needing to be closed on defense are big.

Agreed. Consistency would be nice and not consistent losing.

Beating the teams we should beat is a good start. Beating some MAC teams that we should beat is a good start. Playing tough against teams we have no chance of beating (Florida and Michigan State) would be encouraging.

At this point I'm just looking for improvement.
