As a Marshall fan I can't cast stones at anyone's schedule.

They've never played an FBS team and don't have one on this year's schedule either. They've had 2 Div III games and 3 Div II games, though.

Point being? When did ODU play its first FBS opponent? Third year? Fourth?

You play who you can when you don't have the benefit of a conference schedule. If you want home games, you play who you must.

ODU played 5 FBS games the year before it joined CUSA, with a gap of one season between those games. If ODU can manage to land 5 within a years notice. Charlotte should have been able to land at least one with two years notice.

Last season, right? But, to be fair in this sense (I do have a degree from ODU too, as does my wife) were any at home? I don't remember, to be honest. Point being, we couldn't cancel every contract and still keep home games. If Charlotte is unprepared next season, so be it, it will be clear on the field. But I also don't think it's something to criticize.

The Charlotte AD established the schedule for their first two years well in advance of the CUSA invite. The schedule was setup to all be easy travel games against solid FCS competition, but turned out to be tougher than expected (eg, the Niners played 4 ranked FCS teams in their first year, beating #24 Gardner Webb).

They had a game scheduled against Va Tech, but it wasn't set until 2019, because FBS schedules are set so far in advance (and probably to give them time to build the program up some). That game was canceled by Va Tech following the CUSA invite. Since the invite, the Niners have scheduled Temple (for a H&H IIRC), and reportedly will be playing Kentucky in 2015 and possibly Tennessee in 2017. They also have agreed to a H&H with App State. There may be some other FBS opponents as well.

Fair question, and I think it has been answered--we thought we would be FCS for a while and as and independent you schedule who you can. I want to mention though that in basketball scheduling we never play a reduced scholarship (non-Div I) team and I believe you will see in football we will not hide from anyone. Sure we will probably get waxed a few times to begin with, but we will be on the field when the whistle blows. Middle of the conference in a couple of years is my goal.

You would think ODU fans would know more about a transition to FBS but they are fuxking simpletons. You would think the town flooded and the salt water swelled their brains. Starting to think JMU fans were right.

In our second year of football, we were better than this, and in our year one of transition to FBS, we were better than this. So use whatever euphemistic language (ha) that you want, you need to still prove that you are more ODU/UTSA than FakeGSU. It is that simple. You lose to Pembroke and NCCentral. CAMPBELL scares you. 'nuff said. Be prepared to be everyone's Homecoming game for a decade until you field a team that makes such games laughable.

And for the record, JMU fans all receive golden tampons when they enroll as freshmen. Washable, durable, and completely plausible as an denial explanation as to why, in 4 short years, that ODU has lapped them (on and off the field) while they floss with the putrid string hanging from their
swollen, smelly, and infected manginas. They are now irrelevant, as you will be, unless you up your game.

Once again you're f@cking clowns like your coach and live in a water trash "town". A Hampton win would be satisfying. I've seen a pair of epileptics share a bowl of noodles with more grace.

Funny how the coach your admin has failed to emulate is what you insult. Petulant child.

"it puts the lotion in its skin, or it gets the hose again..........." Keep chirping so proudly, you Campbell destroyers. You have slayed the only non-scholarship school with a mascot that resembles someone with spina bifida; so you are assuredly ready to avenge that horrific loss to the meanies of UNC Pembroke, and one day you can even compete with those very scary NC Central folks, as MEAC teams are a conquest that is worthy of mention.

Lots of work to do, Sparky, regardless of the amount of curse words you bypass through the filter. Cuss and rationalize away, but these are the facts, and they remain undisputed.

Can I pull this thread back up Sat. If we beat NCCU 65-3?

And i love watching ODU and Charlotte fans go at it. Its like watching 2 special olympians go at it over who is the fastest midget on the track team.

And this midget may end the perfect season of Marshall, in the industrial and unlikely environs of a shipyard, in a locale long forsaken in the eyes of fans of the Thundering Herd.

Unlikely. Its more likely that ODU throws in the towel like it did vs UNC and asks for a running clock again.

Wow! Relax. Apart from Smitty, all we were wondering is how Charlotte didn't buy out one stinking game and schedule a guarantee game or a home-and-home with a G5 school. The leaders had two years to get this done. And yes, ODU fans understand the difficulties of a transition. Scheduling is a nightmare, many of the best players will get redshirted during the transition and you're playing mostly FCS recruits when many expect FBS-quality play solely because of the transition. But hey, if you want to keep name calling, go ahead. It'll just make you look like the simpleton.

Didn't ODU lose to a non-scholarship team their opening game of the second season?

I don't see why Charlotte is really being held to a much different standard. Sure our move-up was accelerated, but it would be absolutely foolish for us to play a schedule full of FBS teams in year 2. We don't have nearly the talent or depth to compete with those schools and we'd lose every single game against FBS schools. I'd much rather come into the first season in CUSA with (hopefully) a reasonably good record behind us and fan interest than come in off a 3-9 type season with nobody giving a **** about the program. ODU was considerably better last year than we are this year and they lost every FBS game last year that they played, including an absolute drumming by a mediocre North Carolina squad.

We're going to get the **** kicked out of us next year. I'd rather not have back to back losing seasons in a row.

Lot's of question marks on this year's team, but I expect a nice haul of JUCOs (and we have some FBS transfers eligible next season), so I expect to see us be bigger, faster, and more mature next year.

QB is a huge question mark though and our current QB is not going to be the answer at the FBS level. This is why I think it is foolish of our staff to deny a 4* recruit that was one of the favorites to win the Tennessee starting job. We need talent at the QB position and we had an absolute steal fall into our lap, but instead we said "no thanks"
