NO transparency at all
If you guys haven't read the DNR today, do it right now. It really shows how Everett acts like a celebrity. I understand keeping things secret, but this isn't the NFL. I hope everyone realizes that this IS NOT normal for a college level football team..

Good luck with that. I imagine that only players and the media would be troubled by this policy.

RE: NO transparency at all
Someone correct me if wrong, but pretty sure that is SOP for most programs. They select certain players to "meet" the media and keep the rest tucked away lest they say something dumb.

To be completely honest, as long as the man wins, I couldn't care less about media transparency or not. This is a non-issue.

This is normal in sports, the private sector and the public sector. In my law practice, I don't let the press talk to anyone on my team about any case. It comes through me and I either give the interview or the quote. The same is true when it comes to communicating with my clients. I have a limited group that I train and I groom on how to communicate with my clients and in what format. I don't let first and second year attorneys communicate with anyone until I've trained them.
The best quote from the article is this one: "It's not necessarily controlling the message, it's making sure the message is what we all want it to be," Withers said."
I'm glad Coach has clamped down on the free access to the players by the media. I'm glad he has a 12 person leadership council that is charged with self governance within the culture that has been developed. You also don't see off message or inappropriate tweets like we've seen in the past.

That certainly sounds good in a lawyer case. Makes perfect sense. Also, good to see the opposite side with a valid case, without using words like butthurt. Touche. Valid argument.

Agreed wholeheartedly, this is how big boy football works. I applaud Withers with his handling of the football team. To be honest, this really shouldn't be a surprise or even an article because is such a common practice.

This is not just for a law firm. The players are being subjected to the same rules and practices that any good organization uses. We want to protect our brand and having just anyone mouth off to the press can be detrimental to the program. We also don't want to provide too much information to our opponents. If someone complains about not starting or mentions that someone is hurt or talks about how poorly a unit is playing, it all can impact what happens on the field.
These guys are happier than I have seen them be in a long time. People crave structure (even when they complain about it) because the rules are clear and so are the rewards and consequences. If the USC player that lied about how he was injured was playing under Coach Withers, his butt would be gone. Not suspended. Gone.

Hot Hammer ... I was with you all the way until the example of the USC player. Not sure that Coach Withers would have suspended him for that. Kids make mistakes in judgment all the time. I haven't seen anything to make me believe that Coach Withers would jump to a suspension because a player told a lie and then admitted it and apologized for it. But perhaps, I don't know the whole story down there in Cockland.

Under the previous regime with MM, it was good to allow all players to speak to deflect air time away from MM and what might come out of his mouth.
We've got a capable public speaker in EW, he's in charge, and i'm fine with him taking all the glory, and all the heat in the press.
Why distract the student -ATHLETE any more than necessary ?
