OT: Joe Webb, Cut or Keep?
From b/r:

Panthers' Cut or Keep: QB Joe Webb

Quote:Obviously third-string quarterback isn't the highest of priorities for the Panthers heading into the season, but Joe Webb has done nothing but impress during the offseason and it's hard to cut a player after he's done everything asked of him.

Webb likely would have led the Panthers to a comeback victory in the first week of the preseason had Marcus Lucas not tipped up a pass on a slant pattern late in fourth quarter that fell into the hands of a Buffalo defender.

He also played briefly against the Chiefs last Sunday and was a solid 2-of-3 for 27 yards.

Backup Derek Anderson will likely only be around until his contract expires in 2016, and if Carolina wants to hold on to a surefire future replacement, Webb looks like a good bet.

Verdict: Keep

Also in the same article, talking about Fozzy Whitaker - newly signed RB.

"Whitaker has only impressed since signing with the team and although he may not have the time to surpass Darrin Reaves on the depth chart, he does have the ability to contribute in the return game, should the Panthers not find their starters at those positions adequate."

I hope keep, but for some nfl teams it isn't heard of to keep 3 qbs on a roster.

Can he bruise his pinkie finger and be injured reserve without counting against the roster?

We will know one way or another next week. Teams have to cut down to 75 players on the 26th, and down to their 53 man rosters on the 30th.

Solid performance for Joe .3-4, 64 yards and a td throw for Webb against the Patriots. The only points the panthers came up with.

based on playing time it does not look good but he is building a hell of a demo tape for the CFL or any NFL teams that need a backup QB last min

Joe came in to do the 2 minute drill last night after the other QB he's battling for the position(Blanchard) was hurt on the previous play as he scrambled...

QB Joe Webb: Thrust into action with zero warning, Webb led a lightning-fast touchdown drive in the closing minutes that helped the Panthers avoid a shutout. Carolina inserted Matt Blanchard under center for its final series, but Blanchard was shaken up on his fourth snap and had to exit. Enter Webb, who needed four snaps and 48 seconds to lead the offense 64 yards to the end zone. Webb completed a pass of 30 yards to wide receiver Kealoha Pilares followed by a 31-yarder to wide receiver Toney Clemons before hitting tight end D.C. Jefferson for a 3-yard score. It added up to a passer rating of 156.2, close to a perfect rating of 158.3.

Carolina made 10 of their 14 required cuts today: Link

Also Cam suffered a hairline fracture in one of his ribs against the patriots and he'll be out for the Steelers game, but they think he'll be back for the first game.

Joe might be the only Qb available for the Panthers Thursday.

The panthers cut a lot of Wrs today, which may mean they are planning on keeping an extra guy at another position. Not saying that is the case, but it's definitely a good sign that joe is still around right now.

With Sam Bradford out for the season, the Rams will have an extra QB spot available, so that best #3 QB in the NFL is gonna be a strong #2 candidate now if Carolina is looking to trade.
