BYU is going to the B12. Orrin Hatch means business.

TO mention Hawaii leaving would somehow be the spark for BYU to the MWC, just shows how clueless this guy is.....

Looks like ND will be canceling the rest of our series with BYU.

RE: BYU Can't Convince Conferences it is a Power Team
BYU's original reason for independence was, according to many, a reactive move to Utah getting invited to the Pac while BYU was left holding the bag (MWC). If anything, that move in itself showed that BYU has always thought of itself as an equal to Utah but above the rest in that league.
With that said, I don't see how they go back to that conference, regardless of what happens with Hawaii.

I think there's a better chance they join us than go crawling back to the MWC.

FWIW, the AAC considers BYU a Power Team, as evidenced by listing them with our quality non-conference opponents in that advertisement. The AAC and BYU are building a great relationship.

Plus the Miami Beach Bowl.... It's inevitable, not if, but when we see BYU in the AAC. No way are they going back to the MWC, plus they have said that they want the eastern exposure.
The only thing that might muck this up is if the B12 takes them.

RE: BYU Can't Convince Conferences it is a Power Team
BYU just announced a series with Washington for 2018 and 2019. That's now 7 games for 2018 and 5 games for 2019, without any American opponents - so, I doubt any announcement is imminent.
I'm still hoping that at least 2-3 of those openings each year are with American teams.
Interestingly, related to the ACC and SEC scheduling decisions from a couple of months ago, of those 12 games, there are 5 PAC 12, 2 Big Ten, and 1 ACC - ie, 2/3 of the scheduled games are against the P5.

The AAC also considers itself to be a power conference...not sure about using that as your validation..

Does this mean that they are any closer to joining the AAC?
What an idiotic article. BYU scheduled Washington today. They have 9 teams scheduled with the Pac. They would never re-join the MWC. If not a P-5 conf it would be AAC.

BYU may not be a 'power' team, but the only reason SEC and ACC won't play them is because, God forbid, BYU might beat them.

RE: BYU Can't Convince Conferences it is a Power Team
Anyone who follows college football knows BYU is a fine program both on the field and off. They have the same level the history, tradition and pedigree that many of the upper Profit5 have and much more than bottom dweller Profit5 teams. If anyone thinks different they know not of what they speak.
The Big 12 will not expand. They won't need to because they are going to get a CC game and stay at 10.
Would BYU rather hitch it's (football) horse to Cincy, UCF, Navy, Houston, East Carolina, USF, UConn, Tulsa, Tulane, SMU, Memphis, Tulane et al or Boise, San Diego, Fresno, San Jose, Utah St, .....et al?
I have to think the American is a better option for them than the MW. Maybe we could get BYU, Army, Air Force and Colorado State to join us.

I know BYU is legit for one reason alone - the 1980 Holiday Bowl.
Jim McMahon - before his superbowl shuffle days - took it to the Pony Express in that comeback win. "Miracle Bowl"...ugh

Better conferences have appealed to the NCAA to move the CG to 10 teams and each time the NCAA said no. If the NCAA was content on giving it away you wouldn't have seen almost any realignment take place the past 7 years.

True. BYU is a quality opponent by 95% of college football's estimates. The big conundrum about playing BYU, and the reason that independence is a tough way to go for them, is that if they are good that season and you beat them, good job. The problem is that what happens if you beat them, or at worse lose to them, and they turn around and have a 6-6 year and lose to teams like San Jose or Wyoming?
Having a conference to lean on insures that you get quality opponents each year, and only have to worry about getting 2 or 3 high level OOC per year.
At the end of the day, the ones with the money make the rules. You can call yourself power-this or power-that, but unless you have the money, you're just talking to the wind.
