AAC Network?
Is this happening? I seem to remember Aresco mentioning they were working on it.

RE: AAC Network?
Hope so. I think it would help keep the AAC as the front runner of the other G5 conferences.

RE: AAC Network?
I would buy in if it's not that expensive.

I just moved to NYC in June and would like to keep costs down (I prefer not to have Directv down my throat), and hopefully catch UCF games mobile, or on Internet.

There are no plans for a AAC network and I don't think he has ever mentioned such a thing. Aresco has mentioned a AAC Digtial Network---which already exists in a fairly limited form. The digital network showed 20-30 women's basketball games last year and some olympic championship tournaments (track and field, baseball, etc.). I'd like to see its coverage expand significantly into men's baseball (it was criminal how minimal the baseball coverage was last year, CUSA had more televised games). No reason for the digital network not to cover 20-30 mens baseball games given the quality of the conference.

I wish there was a way to subscribe to just sports channels. I download all my TV shows but am willing to pay good money for all the college football games in HD.

RE: AAC Network?
I could be wrong on this but isn’t the digital network content depending on how many games the university chooses to cover and support?

I would think (again I could be wrong I don’t know how these things work) that the content is limited to the amount each individual university wants to get involved in and absorb the production costs of televising each event.

I can’t see the conference staffing a production team and announcers for non-revenue producing sports programing, maybe a weekly recap show but I would think that’s it.

RE: AAC Network?
I say "no" to an AAC Network. In order to succeed at starting a network, the AAC would need to partner up with a major network (Fox owns the Big Ten Network and ESPN owns the SEC Network). I just don't see those networks wanting to take the financial risk of launching a channel that is solely dedicated to a G5 conference. Plus, the AAC gets such a small amount of money from ESPN already that we have no leverage. Why would a major network like ESPN want to launch an AAC Network when they can just pay us peanuts to carry the content on their standard channels (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN3)?

The AAC first needs to prove itself on the field and then renegotiate our ESPN contract at the next look-in period. If the AAC can get a significant pay bump then, there is always the hope that our schools will have enough money to at least hang with the P5 and separate ourselves away from the G5. At the point, if Aresco is successful with his "P6" campaign and the AAC is elevated up with the big boys, then you start an AAC Network. I just don't see how it is financially viable until then.

The AAC has zero chance of a network other than its current digital network. Zero.

RE: AAC Network?
already exist, is a digital network, it only accessible through their site right now ..but i emailed some AAC employees about it a while back, they said they are trying to get a roku app by December and trying to push for other devices after that

beyond that..like tv, we have no interest in that at the moment

ESPN controls all our rights meaning we cant make one till our deal is up..and aresco's hope is to extend our deal in 4-5 year with the same terms but dramatically more money, so i dont think he is gunning for a tv network at all

RE: AAC Network?
I was listening to one of the national sports shows on XM the other day, and they were talking about these conference networks. I only caught the tail end, but they were saying how the cable companies are tired of getting "bullied" by the Fox and ESPN to add these networks to their regular lineup, and that it may be harder for someone like the ACC if they ever try to create one. The AAC wouldn't have a snowballs chance to ever create one. Heck, as big a college sports fan as a I am, I've very rarely ever tuned into a Big Ten Network or PAC-12 Network program. If given the choice, I wouldn't subscribe to any of them.

But I do think a digital network could be golden if.......IF........they do it right.

See, this is where the AAC is already behind. Remember when Aresco said how the AAC was going to be "the leader" in digital availability? Well, the SEC Network is already accessible from WatchESPN, as is the Longhorn Network. Did Aresco approach ESPN about hosting "AAC Network" programming? Or will they do it themselves on some crap service like All-Access?

As far as I know its on a different platform---Live U handles it. This article says it covered a paltry 38 events in all of last year. Hopefully it gets significantly expanded this year. The MW is WAYYYYYY ahead of us in this department. A Roku and Apple TV app would be a decent start along with expanded coverage.

I believe we kept those rights and didn't give that to ESPN. If production costs are kept low this could be a good niche revenue stream. for instance, the schools would produce the content and provide it to the network. So, yes you'd get to watch Houston/ECU tennis, but you might have to endure the ECU announcers for instance.

A good while ago, @Mark_Hodgkin sought suggestions for improving the digital network. He the most active conference employee on twitter...probably due to his job. 03-wink Yesterday, I found this interesting as it is assumed that these meetings take place, but nice to see a united effort/pitch.

RE: AAC Network?
Is it possible the AAC schools could get together and record the games live that are not picked up by ESPN and play them back on the AAC website real time? I would think all the schools have the technology and resources to do that. If not..why?
