RE: APP - Marcus Cox
There is no question the young man has talent. He put up those numbers with a less than stellar OL. The biggest difference in FBS to FCS are the guys up front. App's OL will be much improved this year, but so will the competition. Even so, think I'd wait before making predictions either way.

Hard for me to fathom a Troy fan thinking that Cox is better than Michael Gordon, who scorched the Trojans last year with 14.4 yards per carry!
Michael Gordon
Cox had numbers all year.
He didn't average 6.7 yards per carry vs. an FBS scheule, like Gordon did, or 8.4 ypc like the Cajuns' McGuire did.
There is NO reason to believe Cox is the best back in the Sun Belt.

We wake up one morning and see that Laney has been rehired as the "new" AD.

I was watching Gordon carry the football before you ever heard of him.Your defensiveness for your team may have you misremembering some posts
Gordon is a fine back and their is room for more in the discussion than just the most talked about from ASU and ULL.I'll throw in Burke from Troy along with Cox and some of those types that can put up comparable numbers if things go right.

If pans out to be true, must have been very, very minor scope.

GS's best RB will be racking up hella yards this year. Unfortunately he transferred to the Georgia State Penal Institute, so you won't get to see his greatness.

Maybe not so many when you have an hour to get your exercise in the yard.

No one has stated as such. The only definitive claim made has been that he is not stAte or ULL caliber. See the difference?
Until Cox plays a down of SBC football, I think anyone is jumping the gun on predictions for this year--especially with the meniscus issue.

the bottom line is with Cox starting, Upshaw, a redshirt freshman who by all accounts is as talented as Cox, backing him up, the transfer from Utah, (cant remember his name), and 2 really talented freshman, App might have the deepest overall talent at the running back position in the SBC....I think we will be fine.

But only Cox and Fergerson have any game experience. The others may be talented but until they actually play in a real game, no one really knows how they will perform. Much is expected of Upshaw but he still untested.

Nice shot on goal....but....stAte,ULL,and Troy all have deeper backfields than APP.
If APP is fourth with only one year of FBS recruiting than they are off to a great start.

RBs can get injured so fast you never seem to have enough of them.

RE: APP - Marcus Cox
I really don't give a crap what Troy, ULL has at RB, again, the only thing these guys lack is experience, and they are going to get plenty of that one the season starts, don't forget Cox was a true freshman last year, and now he is on the finalist list for top running back in the country. The running back position might be the 2nd deepest, and 2nd most talented on the team, (linebacker might be the best), and yes I believe our running backs are as good a unit, as deep as anyone in the SBC. I guess we will have to wait for the season to play out to see who is correct. But regardless, Ill say it again, we have a lot of other positions to worry about, but the running back shouldn't be one of them, I think we will be fine.

RE: APP - Marcus Cox
Seems a bit of stretch to claim we have such depth as the top teams in the SBC when only two of our players have any game experience. Just because we have numbers doesn't mean that translates into overall success from that position especially if Cox is limited due to injury.

Or they can do dumb **** and the next thing you know you're wondering how you have so many WR's and no RB's.

We found a gem in Cox last year and all indications are Upshaw is just as talented. But you never know until they are in a game situation. It will be interesting to see how the young guys perform at Michigan. The last time we went up there with an All American QB and RB. Edwards had a fumble on a blind side tackle, but Richardson had 24 carries for 88 yards and no fumbles. In order to stay in the game we can not turn the ball over.
