The story is full of conflicting reports. Even if he was provoked by a racial slur, punching a woman in the face is not the proper response. You have to be the biggest person and walk away. A bright future isn't a fair trade for meaningless revenge.

He has amazing talent, hopefully he can avoid the Marcus Dupree fate after he serves his punishment if proved guilty.

Based on the report, the "racial slur" sounds like something made up by his attorney to distract attention. Its a total red herring.

Disappointingly, Castiglione tries to defend him (indirectly, but he implies Mixon didn't initiate anything). According to the charge by the woman, he initiated the argument, although not the physical contact.

"According to a probable cause affidavit released by the Cleveland County District Attorney's office, the alleged victim told police Mixon directed a homosexual slur at her [male] friend and there was an argument. The affidavit said that according to surveillance video, the woman then pushed Mixon and Mixon lunged at her. The woman then slapped Mixon in the face, and he reacted by punching her in the face. She fell onto a table, then to the ground, and Mixon then left the scene.

The woman suffered a fractured jaw, broken cheek bone, fractured sinus and ''fractured orbit' near her left eye."

This is nothing compared to the legendary stories about Barry Switzer's teams in the 80s. Those teams had everything from machetes to machine guns to everything in between. Talk about a win-at-all-costs operation.

Ummm, she pushed and slapped the player before he hit her. That seems like some selective prosecution, because she should have been charged too.

He can always play for Texas Tech... (Where one of their CB's punched a women's BB player during a pick-up game, shattering her jaw, was not indicted by a grand-jury and promptly re-instated to the program.)

She slapped him. Probably made his face a little red for 2 or 3 milliseconds. He broke her face, knocked her out and left. Obviously, they are being very selective in not charging her.

I know there are legal definitions involved but if what she did is "assault and battery" then what he did should be "attempted murder."

If we have not all noticed, women are different than men.
Women hit and slap men all the time, but one hit from a guy
get them into a lot of trouble. Most guys would never report
being hit or slapped by a woman for fear of being called and
looked like a wuss.

Depends on how hard the slap was. She pushed him, then smacked him. Does that sound better?

What if it was a scrawny field goal kicker who pushed then smacked/slapped?

I don't think Women should be treated like Children, where it's okay to hit adults and not have them hit back.

I don't either, but it happens all the time.

You can minimize her crap anyway you want to, but she provoked the beating that she took. If she would have kept her hands to herself then in all probability he doesn't hit her. Women should not be getting a free pass on violence.

I think it's hypocritical to say it's ok for women to push/slap anyone simply because she's a woman. Both should be prosecuted for the same offense. It's just easier to say no one should be touching anyone. The "walk away" excuse works both ways.

Okay Steven a. Smith. Just stop with this douchiness. It is never okay to hit a woman, say it with me, never. Dude could have called the cops and had her arrested for misdemeanor battery, so the only free pass she would have gotten is straight to the county jail.

It is never ok to hit anybody and that includes women hitting men; and there is nothing douchy about that, but somehow you are missing the point on that. She should have been arrested too or they both should have been allowed to walk. Oh by the way you are saying that he could have just called the cops and had her arrested; ummm, well they cops did come and they arrested him even though they knew she instigated the fight.

I don't think I'm missing the point, and you are correct it is never okay to hit anyone, man or woman. I meant the dude should have called the cops after she slapped him INSTEAD of breaking her face.

Mixon has plead not guilty to the charge and has been suspended from the team for the year.
This won't end well for this young man. He should have just walked away.
