Don't see that this one would actually go any further. IF the governor can veto a funding bill via the state constitution, then they can veto a funding bill. Doesn't say there aren't limits on the "why a bill can be vetoed'.

It may not be pretty, but i don't see how it can.

Interesting. I don't particularly like Perry and I *love* to see political drama (on an individual level), so it shall be quite intriguing to see how / if this plays out!

is this the same hysterical zealot that indicted tom delay, only to get shot down the second it got into a court that didn't have a political ax to grind?

RE: Texas Governor Rick Perry indicted
this is phucking ridiculous. but I am sure PMSNBC will begin to run wall-to-wall coverage of this "scandal".

meanwhile, Chris Stevens is still dead, and no one is being held accountable.

At the center of the issue is a complaint about intimidation stemming from Perry’s threat to veto of $7.5 million in state funding to the Public Integrity Unit run by Lehmberg’s office. The threat came after she pleaded guilty to drunk driving and served a 45-day sentence; Perry called on her to step down but she refused to resign her position. Perry then vetoed the funding for the PIU.

A grand jury was called to determine whether or not Perry broke the law when he threatened to veto the funding. As a result they issued indictments on two felony charges: abuse of official capacity and coercion of public servant.

Its an interesting case. Yes, the Governor has a right to veto a bill, but there are intimidation laws preventing him from demanding that an elected official resign so he can appoint a replacement or he'll cut off all the money. At least that's the argument. If there are any Bridgegate style memos or emails floating around, the case will have legs.

Go file a pointless lawsuit against the President...oh, wait, too late.

The Democrat's henchmen are again hard at work. Perry is stifling their flow of new voters coming across the river.

From the same Travis County District Attorney's Office that was overturned on Tom Delay's equally bogus charge.

Oh and this the "Rest of the Story"...

Good day!

So, LazyTom, you don't believe that a sitting Governor should have the ability to remove a public official that was convicted of DUI? I've read that she blew a .23 - let that sink in for a moment. She could have killed somebody and doubtless would gladly go after anybody else that was driving as drunk as that. Why is it that some public officials believe themselves above the law?

If she had any honor, she would have resigned. Instead, she circles the wagons, calls in reinforcements and gets her posse to target the Governor.

I doubt that this will go anywhere.
