Stadium size mattered back in the day when that was the only way fans could watch their team play. Schools built big stadiums so they could sell more tickets to fans that wanted to watch their team. All those big college stadiums are remnants of another time in college sports. Smaller stadiums with amenities for the fans is the new normal. A stadium today is part of the TV product, it serves as the backdrop for the event.

As long as the stadium can generate revenue for Tulane while providing an exciting forum for football than everything will be fine. Remember they just left a big stadium that was mostly empty, I am not sure capacity is a real issue.

It matters in terms of bringing in quality non-conf opponents and conference affiliation. It also can matter in recruiting as other coaches could use the size against us.

No, It doesn't matter...because if LSU wants to play you guys, the dome is still there for single games.

Calm the F down already.

Tim Floyd would recruit the greater NO area, and the "state of Tulane" would extend into basketball. CJ's doing it in Football, and the talent upgrade is growing. There's no shortage of basketball talent in the greater NO area.

But it's not just about LSU, we don't want to have to be playing in the Dome every year to play the likes of Miss St or Ole Miss. Benson gave a ton of money so we would be playing at home.

Oh and I am calm. How about the issue of conference affiliation and recruiting? It's a perception/brand thing as well, this may end up being the smallest stadium in D1 when we already have the smallest Bball facility. Not only that, many TU admins blatantly lied to fans/alums. This isn't the end of the world and I am still pumped with my three season tics (plus there are some really nice amenities), but as crazy as it may sound, many TU fans actually believe we are sleeping giant. We (fans) want to be prepared if we can ever right the ship consistently.

Makes no difference, I'll be floored if they draw over 22K on a regular basis.

Well, according to the seat counters, it's less than 23k. The reason we're obsessed with it: Because we were sold a 30k stadium. The deception has been tough to stomach, when most that follow closely enough to know already wanted our AD fired long ago.

You can always go root for LSU.

I mean, you're getting a new stadium, coming off a bowl game...all I can think is "damn, talk about spoiled"

Be happy for what you have...

I guess you don't know that Tim has roots in New Orleans, and still keeps a house there? You don't think that a $1.5 million salary and a chance to play in the AAC would lure him from El Paso (!!) to New Orleans? 03-lmfao

Tulane will be lucky if they can get rid of Conroy.

Wait what? Tulsa just hired away an SEC coach and we cant get a guy coaching in the dumps of CUSA in El Paso with a flawed past and NOLA roots? Between that and your idiotic "just be happy" remark, your credibility is shot. Incidentally your attitude would be perfect for the TU athletic admin.......go plant flowers am I right DfCT?

We will fill it this year, its the future I am worried about. We had many more than 30k when we won and played compelling programs. NOLA loves a winner and a party, the OCS will provide both. We shall see.

Good lord, Tulsa played in the NCAAs last season and made the Elite Eight in 2000.

Tulane hasn't made the NCAAs in going on 20 years.

Tulsa has been coached by Nolan Richardson, Bill Self, Tubby Smith, and Danny Manning.

Tulane has...uh...Perry Clark?

All I can say is that you don't know what you're talking about. You're looking at things from 2005 on, as do many.

As for Floyd, he's not Calipari. We had him last time, except that Cowen demanded a stipulation that gave TU an out should Floyd be hit with show-cause from USC. He was unemployed at the time too.
Conroy is very well liked at Tulane and it will be difficult moving him along if he has any kind of fair season....I agree with you there.

Depends on whose definition of "Fair". The Memphis dude is way off on Floyd......way off!

The fact (yes, fact) you almost had him hired a few years back, doesn't change the fact he is now unavailable to Tulane.

His attitude is very much akin to the "take it across the street" we've heard from RD.
