Matte NIU helmets in lockers
Call me boring but I wouldn't mind just seeing the interlocking NI on it.

Rename us the NIU Sheep. We just follow the trends, no matter how stupid they are. Black helmets are part of our identity, so why change them? But what do we know?

I'm sorry but last I checked, part of Oregons resuragance and pitch to the youth is the sharp uni's the kids get to wear...stupid as it may sound or seem, the unis and helmets are FOR THE PLAYERS interest, not our own....and that honestly can be attractive to recruits (again, as silly as that may seem)....so if the sheep are pulling in guys who can run fast, jump high, and be superior athletes...well then baaaa baaa

I realize it's the players' choice. Just wanted to see if there's anyone else out there who doesn't like the Oregon uniforms and helmets. Hopefully matte will fall out of favor, the sooner the better.

It probably will in due time, but then something else will rise up.....like, say, SPARKLES!

There are plenty out there who think the Oregon uniforms and helmets are ugly as all get out. I'd rather have a recruit who respects his coaches, teammates and the school than one who is strictly convinced by wearing some butt-ugly helmet or uniform. But for now, we have to grin and bear it until this latest fad passes. One thing that becomes clear reading the posts on this board, the "young" ones have no understanding of tradition, they have no sense of history and they don't care. They're the ones shocked to find out we've played Indiana in basketball in DeKalb, or if you take Maryland out of the mix, no B1G team has stepped foot in Huskie Stadium, they have no concept of a national champion or repeat All-America gymnasts. So you're not alone, you're just not "trending."

You can't just blame it on people being young. Marketing was something completely different back when "tradition" mattered to people. Name me one company that had naming rights to a stadium back then, or tell me what brand jerseys teams wore. It became all about the money...and with that, the culture of fans can change. It's not that people are young and stupid. Age wise, I probably fit in the middle when it comes to tradition and commercialism, so I like some things and not others. It really doesn't bother me that much.

Can you tell me what history NIU has ever had regarding helmets? I understand the cardinal jerseys with black pants, but NIU has had between 10-15 different helmet combinations throughout the years. That does not present any sort of "tradition" for that sort of thing.

RE: Matte NIU helmets in lockers
Dude, NIU played Indiana in the '70's....give people a break...and NIU needs (any) young fans. New/young fans aren't going to know everything. It's okay.
I always joked while working at the Convo that attendance has gone down as the fans have slowly died off. It's all old people at a game. Athletics is the front porch to a university (I've heard) so things that bring attention, especially in such a hyper competitive market, are good.
You aren't going to like them all, I'm not going to like them all but grabs for attention will be made and need to be made.

Actually, now that I said what I said...if tradition didn't mean something to people, then throwback jerseys would flop. That certainly isn't the case.

I arrived in '79 and the helmets were white. Mallory era (beginning in '80) were Cardinal with white NI on the sides. Those helmets became black, and I honestly can't remember if Charging Huskies helmets were Carnival or black. Don't think the helmets have been anything but black since the current logo debuted, Don't go back to white, please.

i think you need to keep the current logo because it has become very branded and identifiable. Don't want to confuse things. I would like to have stitched on the front of the jersey "The Hard Way"
