Preseason coaches poll released Thursday- FSU is #1
Just saw on USA Today's website a timer saying 1 day 2 hours 59 minutes until poll is released. That would be tomorrow at noon eastern.

I wish they would wait until the first month of the season is over before completing the first poll.

It doesn't really matter anymore since the CFP Committee is going to do their own rankings using their own formula...

RE: Preseason coaches poll released Thursday at noon
I'm positively breathless with anticipation! How else would I ever know which teams are going to be good this year?
Just for kicks, I went back to see how smart the coaches were last year. This is the Top 6 teams from the final 2013 Coaches poll, with their preseason rank in parentheses:
1. Florida State (12)
2. Auburn (NR)
3. Michigan St (NR)
4. South Carolina (7)
5. Missouri (NR)
6. Oklahoma (16)
In all, 8 teams in the final top 25 were unranked in the preseason poll. It's sure good to know that we have experts like the coaches to keep us in the know.

If you just randomly picked teams for the top 25, you would have a 5/25 chance of being right.
Now if you just picked P5 teams randomly, you would roughly have a 8/25 to 10/25 chance of being right.
So 17/25 is better than just picking teams randomly.

RE: Preseason coaches poll released Thursday at noon
looking at last years top 10 preseason- 8 of the 10 were in the top 20 end of the year. 6 of the 10 were in the top 10 end of the year.
12/15 in top 25 end of the year...
oh and for those that think in week 5 is so much more accurate- looking at the top 15 then- 13/15 teams then were in the top 25 end of the year.

Not sure, but this seems to be the first poll without a preseason G5 team in awhile. I could be mistaken.

Really surprised that UCF was not ranked. They lost Bortles and Johnson but they return about everyone else from a 12-1 team.

Here is my worry, how do these polls not influence the CFP? I am very interested how the first CFP looks compared to the ap & coaches poll.

And half of the voters are G5 coaches.

UNC always looks good getting off the bus. Maybe it's the uniforms.

What surprises me more than that is the fact that Florida (122) got more votes than UCF (102)

If they beat Penn State again this year they should get in pretty fast.

1- Helmet schools get votes almost by default. It happens annually where somebody gets in that wouldn't if a non-brand was in the same roster situation.
2- Last year was UCF's first on the national map for most of the voters
3- Many are skeptical without Bortles and Storm

I'm sure I could come up with a single top 25 list that I could reuse every year and be confident that 16-18 of those teams would be in the top 25 in the final poll as well. Ho-hum.

UCF will get in with win vs Penn St...if they aren't already in the AP preseason poll.
