RE: Parrish tweet re Skal and playing overseas
I'm guessing these guys don't go to Europe because those coaches hate playing the youngsters?

Yep....I think the overseas/quick money option will cross a lot of kids' minds and I don't blame them a bit, but, I do think this particular kid goes to college.

Skal to the black bears. Like that's really whats going to happen here.
Where did he say Skal was going to the black bears? He said they were in the hunt, which some dismissed erroneously. It has been proven they have been recruiting him.
I certainly haven't been an FUT fan over the years (a proven fact), but he's got this one dead to rights.

If the figure needed to get him to go overseas is met, and I know the figure, going to college may not happen.

Didn't know that --- I guess I need to think like an owner who has major money to gamble. Still - no way I'd pay that sort of money to a guy straight out of high school so he can adjust to the next level on my dime - then probably leave. That's me --- apparently at least one owner in China disagrees.

I see a lot of people on both sides trying to twist things and use this to attack other posters.
The simple fact is, most people were laughing off the idea of him going to OM, not that OM would dare recruit him. And it still looks like no one thinks that is were he is going.
Just a lot of fluff and arrogance being overplayed on both sides.

If so, than here's how I'm thinking --- even Derrick Rose had to adjust to the next level out of high school. But --- if the play in China is so bad that a player can go over and play without their Chinese team having that adjustment concern (maybe almost a season long adjustment concern) --- it doesn't seem that the level of play would be decent enough to develop a guy like Skal's game. I mean we're talking about a guy straight out of high school coming in and making a big dollar impact on that team - no? And as I understand 'development' might be one of the reasons he is considering this --

RE: Parrish tweet re Skal and playing overseas
Interesting article from 2010 on Chinese BB importing American Players. Keep in mind it is sanitized before being released to the World. lol
Excerpt indicates they are looking for contact.
“ They accelerate and heat up the game through faster speed and more body contact,” Qiang Xu, head coach of the Jiangsu Dragons basketball team, adds. “Since Asian players - because of their physical condition- are not really good at body contact, U.S. players strengthen the team.”
He further adds, “We recruit players that our team lacks. The Chinese team desperately needs a good interior line that has stronger physical qualities.”
“Body contact” is a common conversation topic, demonstrating that it is a feature that Qiang Xu most values in NBA players and what the CBA needs desperately. Yi Yang agrees, noting that U.S. interior players’ upper-body strength is around 300 pounds, while Chinese players are only around 220 pounds.
“They are not on the same level; it’s like comparing a size large to a size small,” says Yi Yang.
In conclusion...Foreign Players are set up as the tackle dummies that the Chinese nationals prove themselves on. Skal, with his injury history, should not go there. Wouldn't be as safe for him as other countries or here.

RE: Parrish tweet re Skal and playing overseas
Also, there is jealousy involved. No one, in his right mind, would send his kid to China unless there was no other alternative. Players would be 'gunning' for you. Team chemistry can be not so good when a foreign player gets more playing time and more money than a Chinese National. Back in 2009, there was a cap on what 'foreigners could be paid'.
Reports claim the CBA's new rules have come into effect as it was rumored some big-spending clubs were ready to pay $1 million to attract world-class players for the new season. Another reason touted is that some conservative officials believe the massive import of overseas players last season decreased local players' playing time on the court.
"We are going to develop the CBA's professionalism, regulate CBA clubs' management and marketing and control their revenue," said a CBA statement. "We also hope to protect the interest of clubs, players as well as coaches."
The CBA's new rules have already been criticized by some media as "going against professionalism".
"There is a 700,000 yuan gap between a national team player and a club player. It's ridiculous," said the Hangzhou Daily. "It will only produce mess among players and clubs."
--Big mess among players and clubs...LOL. Don't send Skal to China, anyone who might be listening. He may have survived a wall, but this is way different.

RE: Parrish tweet re Skal and playing overseas
Maybe this is happening more than I know, but it seems to me that if these international options "get their act together" from a business plan and compensation perspective, it could radically change the landscape of college basketball, and not for the better. Taken to its ultimate end, you see a well-funded and maturing international consideration growing and becoming stronger as they learn to cater to the needs, plans and long-term strategies of the top echelon of graduating high-school players ... giving them an extremely viable and lucrative option at professional basketball for a year (maybe longer as they expand) overseas, coming back to make the bigger money in the NBA afterwards. That would leave college programs to then start considering lesser players as the "top options". That would cascade down through the college program ranks ... for instance, where today you have 4/5* guys going to top programs, now those programs get the top 3/4* guys, and it downgrades from there. The overall talent level in college programs "downshifts" as a result ... perhaps to a serious quality issue in the lesser programs. Just some thoughts.
