CUSA Rivalry Trophies
What's your idea for a rivalry trophy against an in conference school?

Tech/UNT: Half star, half fleur-de-lis trophy symbolizing both states.

Tech/USM: A pair of boxing gloves. Our games are always a fight when we play Southern Miss.

The smut rivalry is called 100 miles of hate. Parties have started discussions for a trophy following that theme. A poor misguided fellow on the smut board (Tim?) is fairly good at 3d graphics and drew up a concept.

Boxing gloves? Nah, we've got one we could already use... sort of (at least per Wikipedia)

Quote:The word "Dixie" refers to privately issued currency from banks in Louisiana.[1] These banks issued ten-dollar notes,[2] labeled "Dix", French for "ten", on the reverse side. The notes were known as "Dixies" by English-speaking southerners, and the area around New Orleans and the French-speaking parts of Louisiana came to be known as "Dixieland". Eventually, usage of the term broadened to refer to most of the Southern United States.

Basically , we just need to find one of those old ten-dollar notes and frame it.

RE: CUSA Rivalry Trophies
We had one with Memphis. Unfortunately even though we lead the series like 10-5 the trophy is in their case because Garrick Mcgee sucks.

I don't care to do another one. It would be artificial to me.

ODU - UNCC: Crown Cup [The Monarchs vs Charlotte (aka Queen City)].

ODU - WKU could be the Wood Plank, or something of that nature. Have a framed photo of Wood Selig on it or something like that.

I like it. We just need $900.

A trophy with a framed Dixie on top would be cool. Or I could see something like the Stanley cup but you call it the Dixie cup.

I'd rather have a rivalry trophy against a college team, not a high school team like WKY.

One of the things I love about the rivalry with WKU is that we don't need a trophy. It has a name that has caught on, that both schools recognize. There is no need for a trophy IMO.

I'd rather help another, new rivalry along with a trophy.

RE: CUSA Rivalry Trophies
From Marshall's perspective:

1. I really think ODU and Marshall will develop a good rivalry. Travelling trophy not necessary.

2. I also think WKU and Marshall will develop a strong rivalry as well. This series presents a perfect opportunity for a traveling trophy. This "feud" deserves a Hatfields vs. McCoys type of trophy. Giant moonshine jar? Musket? Barrel of shine?

3. It will take time for Charlotte, but those games will have a great atmosphere because we have so many alumni in the area.

4. We've played once & I think MTSU already has some rivalry to it as a result of how the game ended.

5. The FI/AU games will always have some type of juice to them as long as Doc is our coach. We recruit that area HEAVILY, as most of you probably know.

In sum, the WKU series is the only one that has a trophy that actually could make sense and not seem totally contrived.

Actually we have played at leat three times and you guys are up on us 2-1. Most people don't realize that we played twice in the 1AA era and you guys beat us twice in the playoff.

Yeah, I actually remember those, but I was just referring to the current conference alignment. We played WKU when we were in 1-AA, too. The only one I remember was an early season game in Huntington when we went 15-0 with Randy Moss. I would bet we've played WKU more than that one time I remember.

Going back to the 1-AA days, Appy State was a HUGE Marshall rivalry. Probably our biggest.

RE: CUSA Rivalry Trophies
I wouldn't think Western Kentucky would have a strong sense of connection with the Hatfield-McCoy feud, considering that Bowling Green is about 5 hours from where the McCoys lived.

Rivalries take time. I always though Southern Miss-Marshall would have become a really strong rivalry, but only 1 of the 9 games in the entire series really carried strong meaning with it and created lasting memories. It takes a spark to make a rivalry meaningful.
