And seem to have your nose poke our asses every time we stop at a thread. Coincidence? NAHHHHHH

You two came skipping here together, hand in hand...not the other way around, sunshine.

And you've been a hater from day one. We posted on another forum for 6 years. Perhaps seeing eye to eye on politics and sports, and being actual friends in reality, could play a part on me posting in threads he starts and vice versa.

Question... Do you get along with your friends?

They wouldn't be friends if we didn't get along...geez guys!

Exactly. So when I post in a thread that Okla started (God forbid), it's because we have similar conversations within said thread. There are many he makes that I don't post in, and vice versa.

I honestly don't see what the big deal is.

Yeah I don't want to go back to those days, hence the reason I don't want dixie bringing his ESPN style rhetoric to this forum.

Reminiscing about those days would mean going back. You've brought your own rhetoric from there as well. That doesn't mean you're reverting back. This subject isn't a new subject for the Spin Room.

not saying that we all didn't bring a little bit of the ESPN style rhetoric along with us.

But threads like these was ESPN at its worse and I'd rather spare this forum of that.

It was full of sports fan kids, most of the guys here are much more mature and know a lot about politics. Without insults on this thread, it could be very interesting. There are slim chances that it would ever happen, but it doesn't mean we can't discuss the way it could be.

Minus UofMemphis rubbing one out and telling us that the South would lose again.

I would like to see how a liberal run government in the non-seceded region would fare versus a Conservative run government in the seceded region. No wars, no fighting each other, just different governments.

North vs south threads and succession was the flagship of everything that was wrong with espn.

but going to your actual comment i have touched down on this topic before. Even though I don't advocate this actually happening, giving the Liberal states a 4 year period of 100% unchecked political opposition will do wonders for this country. I point to the civil war as the prime example where US congress without any southerners to block bills pulled off what is arguably the greatest era of legislation that this country has ever seen and kick started the massive rise of the US as a world power.

Again I would hate to see this happen because I believe everyone should have a vote, but if that same situation were to happen again in 2014, it would do wonders for this country.

How would I react? I'm not sure especially since I'm from MS, my wife's from PA, and we currently live in MO.

I'd probably do what's best for our lively hood and our safety... Which to me would be go back to MS.. She'd only want to go if it's October, HA.

It'll never be north vs south again. Ever. If it were to ever happen, it would be left vs right. Politics have divided this nation... Race, though some will still claim it to be so, have nothing to do with this new divide. If I was to claim myself a racist, it would be because I'm racist against hardcore liberal activists. The ONLY issues you and me have is what... Politics. When it comes to anything else, we have relative likes. That's why I say it's politics that have divided us.

Nobody wants those times back.

I think what he was getting at is the moral standing on social issues as compared to other countries.

sure the south was behind the times on social issues in 1861 and they have seen tremendous growth in changing attitudes on these issues for the better. but at the same time so has the rest of the world.

I see the south (in this scenario) taking stances against LGBT rights and mixing religion a little too much with public policy soon after succeeding. This would immediately isolate them from the rest of the 1st world politically as well as discourage international investments, international tourism, and possibly lead to sanctions from other countries. at the same time I see their social attitudes hurting them largely in the white collar sector which is going to be a vital part of any modern country's economy.

Also, remember that a number of the Confederate states didn't want to join the first time and did so at the last minute. Why would you assume that they would do it again? NC has much better prospects than the likes of Oklahoma, Kentucky, Alabama, and Mississippi. Theses states can't even get pro sports, aside from one team. We have the second largest financial center in the US (Charlotte), The Triangle is among the top performing regions in the country, some of the top universities in the country, and tons of tech business is coming this way.

I could see equal disinterest from Texas, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia.

I've started some here too. I really would be interested to see how the two nations fared if we didn't have politicians stopping laws, or creating them, based on political toe lines. Dixie was just asking what your reaction would be if you heard it on the news.

In other words, since they won't compromise, if we split up and no compromising was necessary, how much different would it be.
