RE: Comcast data caps coming
They've been sending out the warning letters and calls for years to heavy users. I've lived in a house full of college-aged power users who never breached the limit.

300gb is a lot of usage. My guess is that it'd really only affect torrent users and gamers.

Comcast is cheaper and faster than Uverse for internet service. I've had both, though, and Uverse is clearly superior from a customer service standpoint.

I went over back to back months...when I download a movie I would leave the app (vuze) open and other users were always downloading movies from me...once I started closing out that program, I haven't come close since.

I thought about UVerse just because of customer service, but if there is customer service in the world worse than Comcast's, it's ATT. Maybe not UVerse, but ATT is so bad that I would never trust it with my internet.

I'm much more concerned with product over customer service...I'll never understand people who give up a great product because they don't make you feel all special inside when you call the 1800 number.

What Comcast needs is competition...if Memphis had Time Warner, Verizon, ATT, Comcast, Charter, etc...I think you would see a lot of the issues go away due to competition.

I doubt it, since Comcast is consistently rated as horrible customer service all over the country. It's not just a local problem.

I agree

My Verizon bill for 1 person is over $100, even with a 22% discount. I withstand the bad service and high prices because of the superior product. I consistently get faster network speeds on my phone than I even do through Comcast broadband. I haven't dropped a call in years.

Like I said, the only worse customer service I can imagine is ATT. Both absolutely suck.

Bellsouth was at least as bad and not much has changed. I had a BellSouth DSL modem that I inherited at the place that I worked years ago. The Internet quit working and I was forced to call support. This happened to be connected to a Windows NT server. The guy on the phone said while flipping through pages type in Start/Run/cmd and then type in winipcfg . I said I can do that but winipcfg is only on Windows 9x computers. He said 'Do it anyway'. I did it. He says "What does it say?". I say "it says command not found". I hear pages turning on the other end. He says okay type in Start/Run/command and then type in winipcfg. I say "Okay but you know that cmd and command and they same thing so I am typing in the same thing. His response "Do it anyway and tell me what it says". I say "it says command not found". Finally he figured out that you could use ipconfig instead.

So after an hour or so on the phone he promised to send a tech out. This was on Monday. He says the tech can come out on Thursday. So I am going to be without internet for 3 days. The next day the Internet starts working again so I call and cancel my appointment. Two weeks later a repairman shows up and says he's there to install the new service that I ordered. I tell him that I had a problem but it's fixed and I didn't order new service. I tell him that I better not get charged for his visit. He says that they will make sure that they take it off the bill. Next month my boss comes to me and asks me why we have a $199 charge for new DSL service. Shortly afterwards we upgraded to a T1 not with BellSouth and my problems with Internet magically went away.

I have had at least 3 instances at 2 different places of stuff like that happen with BellSouth. Let's just say that I don't have much confidence in their ability. AT&T isn't much better.

They all suck. I called to get them to come out and upgrade to xfinity in 2 rooms. My boxes are still old time warner boxes. The tech showed up 2 hours late...oh, the appointment was between noon and 5pm. At 5:30 some rep called and to ask if I had heard from the tech. I said no.....she said neither have I and hung up.....HUH? So he shows up around 7 and says that he has 1 box for me. I tell him I ordered 2, he said no I didn't. Then he proceeds into the bedroom where the modem is, looks around and says that my wiring is very old and unless I have him rewire everything he would not touch it. To rewire they have to pull up carpet. I asked him if he has lost his freaking mind. He says that he is a quality control guy and he would not put his name on anything unless we rewire. I told him he needs to worry less about QC and more about customer service and to get the F' out of my house.

He's in QC and he's going to run a cable under your carpet. Some people will say anything to get out of work.

I am glad you're amused 03-wink. The poor dude on the other end of the line when I made the call to Comcast after the QC idiot left wasn't. I kind feel sorry for him cause I was PISSED and he paid for it....

Do you cut the cable folks really think you're going to save money? They aren't going to let you. Everything is bundled these days and if you don't bundle they still rape you. Usage penalties are only the tip of the iceberg.

U-verse is garbage. Their infrastructure is crap. My father-in-law bought in and after months and months of trouble finally saw the light and got Directv and Comcast internet.

I've had the same for years. No problems. Superior HD quality. Every channel I need. And much much faster internet that isn't bogged down with TV, phone, etc.

I'm not laughing at you....but this was fricking hilarious Tatyana ROFL!!

I am glad you're amused 03-wink. The poor dude on the other end of the line when I made the call to Comcast after the QC idiot left wasn't. I kind feel sorry for him cause I was PISSED and he paid for it....

Tanya, your story could describe either my Comcast service or my ATT service. Comcast came out to install my new service last year when I moved into a house where the owner had Comcast for many years without a problem. The tech came out on time and said he could not install Comcast.

Why? Was the signal strength low?

No, he said, it's great, but you're more than 300 feet from the street.

So what?, I asked.

So I can't install it, he said. Policy.

I waited 6 weeks for a booster to be strung, then another week for them to come out and finally turn on service. And the signal when they were done was the same as before they started.

Last time I checked I wasn't anywhere close to the cap.

I honestly don't think this cap will affect many people. If you have a big household with lots of devices or share WiFi with your neighbors you might have problems.

This is just how it starts. You better believe these caps will get lower and lower, and the prices will increase.

I remember when all airlines served in-flight meals. But now we pay extra to bring on luggage.

I wish.....

U-verse is garbage. Their infrastructure is crap. My father-in-law bought in and after months and months of trouble finally saw the light and got Directv and Comcast internet.

I've had the same for years. No problems. Superior HD quality. Every channel I need. And much much faster internet that isn't bogged down with TV, phone, etc.

glad youre happy. i am too.
