...and the talentless *sshole who was dumb enough to think that a one-button mouse pad was a good idea can go to h*ll.

Unfortunately, Apple sucks harder than Microsoft, and you need a degree in computer science to even get a Linux computer (mild exaggeration).

While I'm at it, Gmail and Yahoo! mail are both astonishing monuments of stupidity and failure.

I'm rockin' with VISTA. Tried to install a game on my computer a month or two ago and it basically said "all of your crap it out of date, this isn't going to work."

There is a reason why many businesses are not upgrading to 8. My company advised employees to stop using Explorer and start using Chrome. MS sucks.

Well, it looks like you just found a market for your superior product.

If only I had a product. I would KILL for a new Windows 7 PC that I could afford. ESPECIALLY if it ran *any* email system/software that was in existence circa 2006, before they all melted into one giant steaming pile.

I know. This probably won't be my last thread on the matter. Every day is a seemingly never-ending struggle to not put my computer through the wall.

Making this thread just makes me feel better. Who knows? Maybe some clown in Microsoft's marketing department will stumble across this site and realize how much his product sucks. The same goes for Google and Yahoo!.

Linux Mint Desktop Edition. I can grant you installation isn't foolproof braindead easy ... but then, you'd have to grant me that you never had to install Windows before either.

Windows should roll out "Windows Nostalgia," as a repackaged version of 7. I would pay twice what 8 costs, and be too happy to get 7 back to even be mad.

I have had to install windows once. It was not a ton of fun.

I might even spring for Linux, but I A) have no idea how to even get it and B) feel like there would be MAJOR compatibility issues with virtually everything and I lack the degree in computer science required to deal with it.

Ubuntu is pretty much dummy proof for a Linux distro.

Linux Mint Debian Edition I mean. It comes by default as a LiveCD ... so you can boot it off the CD itself and play around. Reboot ... you're back to normal like nothing ever happened.

Step 1) http://www.linuxmint.com/download_lmde.php
Step 2) Choose the Cinnamon 64-bit version.
Step 3) Scroll down and choose whatever United States mirror you like ... click on the name of the mirror and the ISO will begin downloading.
Step 4) When finished downloading, burn the ISO to a blank DVD. You MUST USE "Disc Image" format, NOT "Data" format. Depending on the name of the software you use to burn DVDs, it could also be called "ISO Format" or "Image FOrmat".
Step 5) Pop in the DVD, reboot your computer.
Step 6) When your computer is booting, select whatever button it displays for "boot options" or "interrupt normal startup" or "boot sequence" or similar. It is typically F12 or some other F key. What key varies depending on your computer. If you don't see anything, tell me what your computer is and I'll look it up.
Step 7) Select the DVD drive from the boot screen. Hit enter.

Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) will now boot. It will be somewhat slower than it would be if you installed it, since it is having to read everything off the DVD drive on the fly... and a DVD drive is much slower than a hard drive. But it will boot to a full LMDE desktop. You can play around and see what you think.

If you tell me what city you live in (PM if you want) I can direct you toward your nearest LUG (Linux User Group).... which love to help newbies ditch Windows. If you bring your machine in, they'll even install it in dual boot mode (windows and linux) for you and show you the ropes.

Or you can come to the Southeast Linuxfest (see announcements) and GTS will personally set it up for you. :)

You should try Linux Mint Debian Edition.

It pulls off the nifty trick that heretofore only more advanced distros like Debian, Arch, and Gentoo can do: rolling release.

You NEVER have to reinstall. Run the machine forever if you want. It will continue to keep everything up to date on an ongoing basis. With Ubuntu and regular mint, you have to reinstall when support runs out (18 months or so for a regular Ubuntu/Mint release ... 3 or 5 years for a Long Term Support (LTS) release).

Sure you can... for professional, it's about $149, $99 for home premium. Many new computers will grant you a downgrade to windows/7 for free, even though you may buy the license for 8.

Agreed.. our company is REFUSING to go to Windows 8, we're getting away from IE (not in its entirety, unfortunately) and sticking with 7 / Chrome/Mozilla as much as they can.

I never knew that. I've installed Linux half a dozen times over the last decade and have never used it for longer than a month.
