What I find so unbelievable is how the same people who can speak only one language can look down their nose at those of us who speak two.

I was saying I don't understand the comparison that he was making.

Lordy fellows y'all are making this way to difficult. Nomad responded to my post about Ebonics saying someone who spoke "hillbilly" couldn't get a job either. I posted the Robertsons as a way to say some pretty wealthy rednecks are doing pretty good with jobs and having a southern accent.

And I said that the Robertsons don't have a hillbilly accent. They're just Southern. Even I have a partial southern accent. Hillbilly is of an entirely different flavor.

I do think that people mix a black southern accent with ebonics, however. The ebonics of today is probably the most hated by black people.

Here in El Paso however, we live in a unique situation where pretty much everyone speaks English and Spanish. Therefore, it is common to get customer service in both languages. It's just second nature to me. If someone speaks to me in English, I speak to them in English. If someone speaks to me in Spanish, I speak to them in Spanish.

We shouldn't assume ( there's that word again) that someone speak English simply because we live in America.

I have a feeling Canada doesn't have this problem.

How many here say that they're "fixin'" to do something?
