AAC/Aresco weigh in transfer autonomy
aresco has been in full support of P5 autonomy except 1 thing. he was quoted in a usatoday article saying he believes the p5 having completely different transfer rules than the rest of D1 might create a competitive advantage.
a few AAC coaches also weigh in
mwc commish believes it will create a free agency

RE: AAC/Aresco weigh in transfer autonomy
I don't really get how the P5 could agree on their own set of transfer rules. If the rest of D1 didn't agree to them what would stop them from enforcing the same rules they always have on kids that sign with their schools?

thats the whole point of autonomy.
they couldn't do it before, but when they get autonomy (probably i august) they can do whatever they want without approval of the rest of D1.
and the pac12 already stated a major aspect they want to change is transfer rules

No I mean I get the autonomy stuff, but unless this rule would apply only to transfers to and from P5 schools I can't see how they could make it free reign for a player to leave a G5 school for a P5 if the G5/other D1 schools have a different set of transfer rules.

the mwc conference commish explain something that might happen if it passed
aka derek carr was a star even as a sophmore fro fresno, the p5 change the rule that incoming players can play immediately without siting a year (maybe a 1 time transfer rule with a certain gpa) whats stopping him from going to a power school where he has a better shot at going pro. or more AAC standard with okorn, pj and kiel if they have a great season next year
the rest of the D1 can make rules for players going "into" their schools not going out in a P5 that will go by a different set of rules

The Article Wrote:"Autonomy is not about competition and competitiveness. It's about student-athlete welfare," SEC Commissioner Mike Slive said.
That Slive, he cracks me up.

I doubt the P5 actually cares much what Aresco thinks --- or the MWC. It's their ball and their house and now, it's their rules, and if we don't like it we can always go somewhere else and play.

RE: AAC/Aresco weigh in transfer autonomy
Repost of the B1G's response to the PAC proposals from another thread. It doesn't appear that the P5s are united (at this point in time) on APR and transfer issues.
Quote:The Big Ten continues to strongly support full cost of attendance scholarships, reasonable on-going medical or insurance assistance to student-athletes, continued efforts to reduce the incidence of disabling injury, guaranteed scholarships to complete a bachelor’s degree, decreased time demands and enhanced time to fully engage in campus life, adjusted restrictions on preparing for careers based on advice and counsel of agents and a meaningful role in governance for student-athletes.
The COP/C also examined three other principal objectives for reform proposed by the Pac-12 presidents – strengthening the Academic Progress Rate (APR) requirements for post-season play, the “one and done” culture in men’s basketball and liberalizing current limits on transfer rules. While the concept of increasing APR requirements has not been discussed in the past, the Big Ten has long supported increased academic standards for all institutions. With respect to the issues of the “one and done” culture and transfer rules, the COP/C agrees that these are important issues that should be examined and addressed in cogent ways.
http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com...nomy-push/
Dr. Saturday also weighed in predicting the AAC will fall in line b/c there really is no other choice. However, the AAC does get a nice shoutout.
Quote:We won't know if a collection of schools such as those in the AAC can truly afford to adopt all the reforms the power five do until there is more clarity on what the reforms are. The AAC might be the only conference outside the power five that can fully adopt that strategy. It is competitive in football and is home to the defending national champion in men's basketball giving it enough clout and earning potential to at least tread water in the fight to keep up.

RE: AAC/Aresco weigh in transfer autonomy
It would be bs if players could go to the so called P5 without sitting out a year but we can't take players from the p5? Can a player switch mid season? Is the p5 ok with a star switching from Auburn to Alabama?
Maybe do some additional hardship options to be closer to family?
Maybe let transfers for schools that offer a stipend vs not able to offer this at their current school? Basically just bulldoze the sunbelt and c-usa.

That's the point. Rules are not about the entity you left: it's about the one you are joining. For example the rules to join the NBA draft are about what rules the NBA has, not what rules the NCAA has. Thus if a player is leaving a G5 and joining a P5 school, only the rules of the school they are joining matters. It is why a player can now transfer from FBS to FCS without sitting out. FCS doesn't force players from a higher division to sit out.

So we create a rule that we can take p5 transfers during the season. 2nd string gets pissed he comes to ucf due to injuries on our side.

This is attempt by the P5 to neuter the G5, pure and simple. To turn the G5 into some development league for them. Once you develop a player what's to stop a P5 from tampering and recruit the G5 top players.

that will never happen and the whole reason why automony is being pushed for the p5, we are still in the hole, we still need complete approval from the rest of the entire D1 to make any rules, which i doubt theyd approve

Right? It works both ways. Florida U. signs 3 quarterbacks, one injures his ankle, has to sit out spring practice and because of that loses his starting job. Rather than ride the bench, he will transfer and be someone else's good fortune.
