New landscaping going in today.......
In the common area that formerly included the armory, ROTC, and sociology buildings. Blanchard tree service is planting at least a 100 trees and shrubs in what appears to be a beautiful upgrade to the general area!

Nice addition UT!!!

Go Rockets!

I agree that the walks are a disaster. They are mostly asphalt and look terrible. I hope these are replaced soon as well!

A few years ago the facilities director guy (forget his name) said they were planning on making that area am extension of Centennial Mall. Would look great if true.

At the time President Jacobs assumed office, plans for a large new science building in that area were well under way and UT was close to bidding the job. However, one of the very first things President Jacobs did was scrap the Science Building because he wanted to move the College of Pharmacy to the Health Science Campus and that required funds to prepare space for them over there. UT's Pharmacy Program was one of the things that made the merger attractive to the Health Science people in the first place. When Pharmacy finally moved to the Health Science Campus that opened up some space in Wolfe Hall for the sciences.

I haven't kept up with the situation for several years now so I no idea of what has happened since then; however, given the current environment in higher education, I would expect retrenchment is more likely than growth in most of the traditional academic disciplines within the foreseeable future for most schools such as UT, so (I hope that I am wrong but) I would not expect much new construction for academic facilities except perhaps occasionally for the Health Sciences campus and maybe some of the other professional schools. That is not a condemnation of Jacobs or his successor, it is just a reflection of the current circumstances.

1. There was also supposed to be a push for an Ag building, but it never happened.

2. They should have planted the trees in April for the best chance of survival.

3. Hope they also put in concrete sidewalks instead of the crappy blacktop they have now.

I'm pretty sure they have concrete their right now??? And I'm pretty sure that practically all walking paths on campus are concrete.

When I drove by the other day, there really wasn't much to see. Just a bunch of ground torn up and construction materials. Looked like they were doing some pipe work.

Where exactly is this new landscaping going to be?

I took this picture on Memorial Day standing near MacKinnon Hall and facing the library. Looks very nice. They've create a number of mounds and planted trees and bushes. There are still blacktop walkways. Hopefully those will be replaced by concrete.

Also went over to the GB and looked at the rocket. The top fin is the only one damaged, and it isn't too bad. I'm sure a body shop guy could fix it easily. The entire rocket is very faded and needs a paint job.

When they put in grass that will look great. What a big improvement compared to those old crappy buildings they tore down. I will take trees and grass on campus any day of the week! Isnt this right near the river too?

So my eyes weren't deceiving me. I certainly hope the Athletic Department is aware of the damage and, as tampabayrocketfan pointed out, the contractor doing the work on Larimer is held responsible for having it repaired.
