Radio DJs fired for calling transgenders nutjobs
We're finding out very quickly that there are two groups of people with protections none of us have: Blacks and Gays. Say a negative word about either one and you're toast.
Quote:Morning radio hosts Kimberly and Beck were fired Thursday following an uproar over their take on new transgender benefits for City of Rochester employees.
The two hosted "The Breakfast Buzz" on WBZA, known as 98.9 The Buzz, which can be heard throughout the Rochester area.
The station's owner, Entercom Communications, said Thursday that Kimberly Ray and Barry Beck were let go because of comments made on the air Wednesday.
Wednesday morning, a segment of the Breakfast Buzz was dedicated to talking about an announcement Rochester's mayor made Saturday - new transgender-inclusive benefits for city employees. The benefits will cover municipal employees who are transgender or gender non-conforming.
"The services that will be paid for under the new coverage: gender reassignment surgery, psychological counseling, because you're probably a nut job to begin with, that's my opinion , hormone therapy, cosmetic and reconstructive surgery," Kimberly said, on the air.
Entercom vice president and general manager Sue Munn released a statement Thursday saying:
"This morning Entercom fired Kimberly and Beck effective immediately. Their hateful comments against the transgender community do not represent our station or our company. We deeply apologize to the transgender community, the community of Rochester, and anyone else who was offended by their comments. We are proud of our past work on behalf of the local LGBT community and we remain committed to that partnership."
"Part of the job of being a morning shock jock is indeed to be making shocking comments; however, they did cross the line in this particular case,” said Scott Fearing, executive director of the Gay Alliance.

But they really are nut jobs. APA still considers transgenderism a mental disorder

well, strictly speaking, "nutjobs" describes the process precisely, doesn't it? it's in the same vein as boobjobs and nosejobs . . . nutjobs.

People who don't agree with what the station is doing or did should voice their discontent as the gays do all the time. Call them up and tell them that if they don't reinstate them that you'll boycott their station. Hurt them where they least like it, in their pocketbooks and that goes for their advertisers. You gotta play the queer game the same way.

RE: Radio DJs fired for calling transgenders nutjobs
So the radio station doesn't have the right to fire an employee for saying things on air that goes against the views of the station?

Yes they do but the listeners also have the right not to listen due to that station's actions.
Correct?

Did they fire anyone else who said something that goes against the views of the station? Are the views of the station even known to the DJs?

So you would likewise support a Co. that was to fire an employee that vocalized support for taxpayer funded sex change operations, right?

Rochester, NY. Must be flush times in public service up there to decide to foot the bill on this stuff. Thanks, taxpayers!

Depends on if that employee said it in the break room and was simply overheard...or if they said it on air at that companies radio station, acting as a company representative.

Well, lets go with on the air as this was. DJ U Memphis gets on there and says "good for Rochester taxpayers to be picking up the tab for sex change operations", and is fired for supporting this. That'd be okay, correct? Equal treatment, equal results and all, right?

Being radio DJs you expect a lot of crap out of them. The firing may be a bit premature. Was there a backlash or is the station just thinking they are nipping this?

It isn't clear from the article about whether there was a backlash, but Entercom announced their suspension on Twitter Wednesday night and fired them the following morning. Apparently there must have been some reaction for the station to feel the need to announce the suspension on social media during the evening.

How many transgenders can there possibley be in Rochester and what percentage of the listeners were they? And how many actually heard the show and how many would pick up a phone and complain? I'm guessing hardly any and that any callers who did complain where your typical liberals who wouldn't have a life if they weren't offended by something.

Even if it is a mental disorder, it seems to me to be similar to calling a mentally handicapped person a "retard" or something like that. The station probably has a good idea of what they can get away with saying on the radio.
