Shhhhh.....

The conventional "wisdom" on these boards is that the AAC is NOT one of the "Gang of Five" conferences. So to group us in with the other G5...oops...G4 conferences is unacceptable.

Contributors for G5 Blogs
(Each of the following will only be represented if we have a contributor from that conference)

If there is interest...?

• G5 “Featured game of the week” (Football. Basketball or Baseball) AAC, CUSA, MWC, MAC and SBC (Starts football season)
• Defensive and Offensive player of the week – each conference. (Starts football season)
• G5 “In the news weekly feature” AAC, CUSA, MWC, MAC and SBC . The top story that best recognizes an achievement from the conference. (Starting in August)
• Selections for a 1st, 2nd and 3rd team All- Conference selection column. (Mid August)
• Ranking the Top 3 QB’s in Conference. (August)
• Possible weekly Top 25 - G5 poll??? *Two Pollsters from each conference. The voters will need to be contributors to the “G5 Blog on ODU Fan Forum” and a member of CSNbbs board. This will enable us to send ballots to be tabulated and returned by a specific date. (Set up prior to Monday Aug 4, 2014) Wee plan to have a pre-top 25 posted before the start of the season. First Pre Poll will debut Tuesday Aug 19, 2014 and we will post a new Top 25-G5 each week on Tuesdays.

Thanks for reading.

The following recommendations have been submitted from other members, any suggests are welcome. You can post or PM us.

* We may have more pollsters, we would like to have equal numbers from each G5 conference.

Thanks Oldtimer

Be prepared for ego-bruised fanboys around here to denounce you for stating what is obvious to the athletic world- that the AAC is part of the G5. I apologize on behalf of the saner elements on this forum.

From now on these are the terms I am going to try to use.

- G4
- So called "power 5" (emphasis on quotes as it is a self proclaimed term by those with an agenda).

These are great ideas. I think a weekly top 25 G5 poll and a featured game of the week would generate a lot of discussion.

I nominate Knightlight and BigEastHomer as the voters from this board on the G5 top 25 panel. 04-cheers

I guess we aspire to higher than the G4.

I aspire for USF to be in the SEC. I live in Baton Rouge, and it would be a dream come true for me to root for USF in a sea of 90,000 purple-clad fans at Tiger Stadium as we play an SEC conference game against LSU. Failing that, the ACC. I would love the first outcome and the second would also generate a celebration in my man cave.

But, aspirations and reality are two different things. I am sane enough to realize that USF is not currently in the SEC or the ACC, rather we are in the AAC, a G5 conference.

That seems to be the main difference around here - between those who can separate aspiration from actual circumstances, i.e., fantasy from reality.

RE: ODU Blog New G5 section with AAC
So I read an article in the blog and came across this:

"Five reasons CUSA will be better than the rest in Five Years. Obviously, I am not saying conference USA will surge past the SBC, MAC or even the MWC and AAC. Sorry, yes I am. I see three of the G5’s pulling ahead, on a limited basis. The realty is the American, Conference USA and the Mountain West will surge to the top. These three share many of the same characteristics...".

First of all, CUSA is not going to be able to compete long term with the AAC or MWC, because CUSA schools are broke. In order to be successful long term you have to have the money to put into facilities and into coaches, which is why CUSA will not be able to compete.

Btw, it is nice that ODU, FAU, FIU, WKU, MTSU, UNT and UTSA fans think that CUSA is going to rise to this great level with them in it and will end up being as competitive as the AAC; but most of the new schools in CUSA were actually in the Sun Belt; and the Sun Belt sucked even worse then than CUSA does now. Reality says that CUSA schools will continue to suck and most of the CUSA games will be played on obscure media stations (if on any stations at all) in empty stadiums and arenas. And good ole nonqualifier university will almost certainly drag CUSA even further down into the gutter.

If you think the author is wrong about C-USA's prospects, go over to this G5 blog and post your point of view. That's what it's for.

Sheesh! 07-coffee3
