I truly do not see how morality laws are not unconstitutional. Reminds me of having out own version of sharia if I am being honest... Also all regulation on first trimester abortion is a definite morality issue.

What are "morality laws"?

Every law -- from traffic signs to prohibitions against murder -- is ultimately rooted in some vision or concept of moral order.

We're not a Christian version of Iran...you don't need a bible for morals...we live by the constitution, not a religion.

In all honesty, I have to write a final for Con law and this thread could be gold for question ideas.

Exactly.

So, what are "morality" laws?

Because of heavy handed government regulations of interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, satellite and cable and their often hamfisted attempts to make sure that telecommunications technologies are used safely and fairly?

Or because you want to see nipples on TV?

It should be my right as a parent to regulate what my child can access on the TV or internet. FCC makes that much easier (at least with the TV). I have no problem with the existence of the FCC.

I don't care if there are nipples on TV as long as the channels that air it are clearly marked and I can block my son from viewing it.

I once reported a local radio station for playing an unedited version of a Puddle of Mudd song.
It wasn’t like it was 2 in morning either.

Morality based laws are more along the lines of obscenity, sodomy, age of consent, blue laws, drinking age, weed, drugs, and so forth and so on.

You are all for showing uncensored xxx material on prime television and long as there is a 30 second delay. Not showing pornographic films is not living in a free society.

You are also in favor of lowering the viewing age to 13.

RE: What are your thoughts on morality laws?
I agree with the FCC being deregulated. It should assign channels and nothing more. The air waves were once a finite public resource ==> but today with the internet, cable tv, etc. that is no longer the case.

It is one of the more interesting debates in legal circles right now with google starting to provide free internet in kansas the "public finite resource" aspect which is the entire justification for why we have an FCC is on life support.

That may be a good list of what are considered morality based laws, but it's not a good approach to defining them.

obscenity ==> i like the status quo

sodomy ==> why is the govt involved in this aspect of our lives?

age of consent ==> I would like to see some minor changes but nothing too extreme.

drinking age ==> raise the draft to 21 or lower the drinking age/draft to 19

weed ==> legalize & regulate

drugs ==> lets reform some mandatory sentencing laws for non violent offenders, but other than that nothing too extreme

blue laws ==> they are stupid & pointless
