Granting that the issue that this guy does not own the land that his cattle graze, consider the importance of property rights. I remember (I think) Jeffrey Sachs talking about improving lives of peasants in third world countries like Bolivia, Venezuela, Columbia, and how important it was for Democracy just to establish property rights ... the ability of the peasants to have a piece of paper that says they own the piece of land that they live on. It is impossible to do that on the 87% of Nevada that is owned by the federal government. Bundy's family has worked the land for over 100 years and they don't have that deed to show ownership. That should ultimately be the central issue, not whether this guy is a nutjob that does or doesn't believe in the federal government or has nutty opinions that allow people to marginalize and disregard the very real issues at hand.

Yes, and the right holds up this racist as their hero...I don't care about his views...but when Hannity gets a fox-news-boner for him, it makes me smile to have the rights new hero shown to be the ranting, foolish old man he is.

Actually they own their ranch and have owned it since 1948, so they haven't been working the land for over 100 years. They simply put their livestock out on land they don't own to graze. Using federal land is actually a bargain for ranchers. The fee to graze per month / per animal averages $16 on private land. It is less than $2 on federal land. Should the federal land in Nevada be sold off to private individuals? That is another debate and I don't know enough to weigh in on that.

No offense taken. It is just that the older I get, the younger 67 seems. (There were a lot of people saying Bundy was in his 70s so I wanted to also correct that.)
