"Frazier’s plan: Build up Huskie Stadium" NStar
"After two seasons during which football was prevalent on a national level, Frazier is concerned that without improvements to the football field, it could be a missed opportunity to maintain the attention NIU has received. While doing this, he wants to maintain the atmosphere football fans have created."

Wait a minute....according to MD02 (aka "Eeyore")....SF hasn't done anything to prove he gets this in the almost 10 years...er I mean months he's been here.

RE: "Frazier’s plan: Build up Huskie Stadium" NStar
Based on this I definitely think the Wrestling and Gymnastic teams will be getting their own building for practice and locker room space. I also would not be surprised if this building also includes indoor courts for the Tennis teams along with locker room space for them AND the rest of the teams that may need the space too (Baseball/Softball/Track/M&W Soccer/M & W Golf...etc)

I would not be surprised if the plan has this finished by Fall 2016. Then immediately after the 2016 football season Phase 1 (guts) of the West side stadium renovation could start. That would be finished for the 2017 season. Then after the 2017 IHSA championships the skybox project can begin...possibly finishing for the 2018 season...IF the funding can keep up that is! That is also a best case scenario I think.

I would also not be surprised if the Skybox came before all of this just because of how much Frazier stresses having premium areas for the fans.

I have a feeling the funding will not be up to par with everything you stated just now. What I believe SF has in store for Huskie Stadium is to give the wrestling/gymnastic teams their own building, construct and build skyboxes all along the west side, and to add seating to both the east and west side. Whether that is extending the seating closer to the Yordon/apartments or whether it is to add another deck (highly unlikely). I think this extra seating will be in the range of 7.5k to 15k to bring us within the bottom tier of BCS conference schools or the upper tier of G5 schools.

What is the Chick Evans Fieldhouse being used for now? Could they convert part of that building for the gymnastics, wrestling, tennis?

I too think we will see a 3500-4000 expansion on either side of the East stands for the 2016 season.

Once this happens I would expect the student section to be moved over to just outside the 30s. This would open the middle 3 sections to be sold to the public as premium reserved seating between the 30s.

The key with funding is to keep bringing in new customers, donors and sponsors.

I think the West seating expansion would be held off until after all the other major projects are done.

The Rec is using it.

Baker wants the Fieldhouse gone but it can't happen until a new rec is built.

Looking at the overhead shot and being on the field Saturday, I just dont see the enough room to extend on the North End.

But I'm not an architect and don't play one on TV.

I see that NIU have hired AECOM out of Kansas City, that is great news based on what we have seen. AECOM also designed the endzone facility at Boise State. AECOM designed with the help of SSOE, several projects at Toledo over the past several years including our renovated basketball arena (Savage Arena), our new athletic complex for other sports (Sullivan Athletic Complex), our new indoor football practice facility (Fetterman) and the renovation & expansion of our endzone facility that is under construction right now (Larimar Athletic Complex)

AECOM had their hand in all of it from what I understand. Our Athletic Director Mike O'Brien says they are the best in the business. I am biased but I think Mike O'Brien is the best AD in the MAC. He is the longest tenured at minimum. If Frazier is doing anything that MOB is doing then I think that you have a real winner of an athletic director on the job at NIU.

They also did the London Olympic Master Plan and Quest Field.

From this angle it certainly looks as if you could fit Half-sections in the north and full sections to the south.

Comments that stood out to me:

"Frazier said fans and donors are committed enough to ensure renovations will go through. He said the renovations will help with recruitment and expanding the fan base, ensuring football remains a national brand."

"Part of the facilities plan will be to increase attendance at basketball games. We’re going to do a lot more aggressive marketing to make sure the feel is collegiate. Folks need to have an active part of the culture of school spirit in the basketball program."

Culture, national brand, marketing, investment. All words I want to hear when I think about Huskie athletics.

Actually I didn't shop this one...well not with a computer anyways. I normally would but since I only have Paint, to get the look I wanted I just printed 2 copies of the stadium then cut the ends off of one then placed them on the other and took a picture.
