Spring Game Experience
Wanted to start a thread that had more to do with the experience than the football, since I think we all agree that's what they need to work on.

1. Beautiful day. I normally don't go to spring games because the weather is so bad, and hardly has any press leading up to the game

2. NIU did a great job promoting the event I thought, A. Set up of THE YARD, so people could get a feel for what is going on B. The use of social media(facebook, twitter, etc) to promote event weeks in advance.

3. Sean Frazier is so much better than JC, in so many aspects.. He is social, his speaking commands a room, he makes his presence known and interacts with everyone.

4. This may strike a nerve.. But I GOT 2 FREE HOT DOGS.. I was leaving the spring scrimmage early to put some stuff in my car before heading over to the donor's thing after the game and as I was walking NIU was giving away the hot dogs no one bought, so picked up 2..

5. Donor's reception was good, in my kind of way...No big to do but just a casual gathering of donors to hangout for an hour see some coaches and get to know fellow donors..Also got to overhear SF and RC talking about the QB play...Again SF was great in this aspect, he talked to the high rollers(chessicks and others) but then was friendly and talkative with whoever..something I feel JC was terrible at..

6. I think THE YARD is going to be great.. central area to gather all lots together and meet fellow huskies..

Overall grade 95 out of 100..

Improvements:
1. an ATM, had no cash for beer tent(though the lady said I could go inside and have concessions bill me and just bring the receipt back out...went to CVS instead and bought beer and came back and tailgated while trying to figure out where I wanted to park.. Ended up choosing West Lot 1, then Stevenson 2(because I can get 2 parking passes).. So will probably be in Stevenson by Huskie Parents again..)

2. After looking over food decided not to buy the $20 buffet and was glad I did, typical bad fatty's food...The need to have Fatty's stick to pouring beer and delegate food to somone else(food at donor's event was decent considering it was free..lot of variety considering there were only 4 choices)

I think DJ Toxic did a great job for the mix of ages.

Looking forward to other food vendors in the yard.

They will definetly need an ATM in the Yard!

I hope next spring they sell nachos instead of hot dogs.

At every home game, there is an ATM between the VCB tent and Huskie Stadium. It has been there for several years

What's the big deal about an ATM? Just stop at your bank or any of the 6 million ATMs on the way to DeKalb. Come to the stadium with a little cash in your pocket. You won't get robbed.

As we are now officially in the "dog days" of Huskie Athletics news, look for a thread devoted to ATM issue soon......

That will be good enough as long as the people at the tent know this and tell the customers who don't have cash.

Yup I rarely carry cash. I don't even think I have used an ATM in the past 5 years.

If the beer and food tent dont take credit cards then them knowing that the stadium has an ATM would be a good idea.

Though that ATM may have not been working...I heard some if not most ATMs were running XP and that most of those are out of operation right now because of Microsoft retiring that version.

That's why those 50+ enjoy life and are not at the mercy of a piece of plastic.

So you would rather use a portable ATM at Huskie Stadium that charges an exhorbitant fee than stop at your bank's ATM before the game and get cash for no fee? 01-wingedeagle

I actually don't even carry my ATM card anymore. If I know that I need cash I bring it.

I typically have some emergency money tucked away but I dont use it that much.

This is hassle free as well. It takes a second to swipe your card and sign. Its 2014, if you sell stuff, you should have the ability to accept credit and debit cards.

I almost always use my Amex, you get points. It has to be paid every month so why not get the points.

Me too. That and cash. I refuse to be cashless and F around with a debit card. I have never used a debit card for purchases. Don't need to. Just use cash or credit card. If you are going to the Yard, just bring cash. Pretty simple.

So if you want to buy a meal at the Yard, you just whip out your iPad with attached square reader? I just take out a $20 bill (or whatever).

P.S. Those sqauare card readers are crap. Can't tell you the number of times I have tried to use a credit card at a retailer that used them and it does not work. Another reason why I always carry cash.

No. No. No. Whoever is selling the beer has the ipad/iphone and credit card reader. And they work fine. I eat at food trucks daily. They all have them. Never had a problem.

Put it this way. If there are two competing beer tents right next to each other. One accepts cards and cash the other only accepts cash. Which one do you think will get more business?

I get your point. Carrying cash is easy and logical but many people just don't do it nowadays

Any time you have a temporary setup, like a tent at a tailgate or a concession stand, there's a chance they won't take credit cards. So I bring cash then. Even then I normally have my ATM card, which I've never used as a debit card, just for bank withdrawals. Actually I prefer using cash rather than credit if it's less than $10
