My question would be, "Why would Tulsa hire him?" He was .384 in the ACC with one NCAA bid in 6 years. He was circling the drain at Missouri.

It's fair to wonder why they'd depart from their usual pattern of hiring promising younger coaches that has worked well for them in the past.

LOL at Mizzou fans thinking SEC membership would matter for basketball. Coaches are cockroaches that scatter for cover when the lights come on, it doesnt matter how nice your house is.

I am sure he was circling the drain. Just wanted to open it for discussion. It is not about the SEC, or any other major conference losing a coach. Big deal... He failed in the ACC and the SEC. Think he's bringing the trophy to Tulsa? Laughable. Good riddance. His new venue seats 8355. Don't get me wrong here. Tulsa to the AAC was a great move, but he is still moving backwards. Nothing against Tulsa, a nice area and good school. Next stop, Wichita Falls Community College... 07-coffee3

Mike Alden is the winner here. He doesn't even have to fire Haith to get a third chance at a basketball coach.

I made no comment as to whether it was a step up, or down. That was assumption on your part. I only commented that Mizzou fans stated it was a step down. Hubris is a *****.

Unless you are about to be fired, why step down in competition? Maybe he has family that lives in the Tulsa area.

Actually the AAC's Champ beat two SEC teams en route to the Nathional Championship.

That's not exactly a step down in competition.

Didn't the Texas Tech FB coach leave Lubbock for Cincinnati? 03-lmfao

Perhaps you didn't read any of the preceding posts. Perhaps he changed head coaching jobs to face better competition. In basketball AAC>SEC.

with these recent hires it should be fun watching Tulsa and Houston battle it out to see who's head coach can go the longest without getting hit with NCAA violations.

Well, at least it gives you something to look forward to, especially given Ohio's relevance in athletics...

true, when I see that Houston's last tournament win was 30 years ago it makes me feel good about Ohio's relevancy. good call, friend!

Of course you must be joking. The AAC loses Louisville this year. You have UConn. UConn peaked at the perfect time. UConn would have dropped 5-6 games in the SEC over the season. SEC put two of three teams in the final four. AAC = not better... 07-coffee3

Facts can be painful..07-coffee3 I started this thread for discussion as to why a coach would give up a major conference job like Missouri for a small school with an auditorium that seats 8355 fans. Do you believe he got a pay raise? Once again, some of you played the "our conference is better than your conference" card. It is not about conference power... it's simply the fact that he split for a smaller university. If you were the CEO of Walmart, would you leave for, say, Walgreens? It seems like that no matter what discussion we enter into on this board, it somehow mutates into a conference fight. It is getting old and I think some of the Mods might agree.

I have no use for mizzou. I'm glad you guys took the 2nd wave out of the Big 12 but wake up

Mizzou fans are learning what it is like to "lose" a P5 coach to a mid-major. No amount of justification will change their minds. G5 fans have no hope, they have very little fan support and they relish "stealing" our left behinds.

Maybe, just maybe the P5 can join forces and shut these idiots out. Take comfort medic, Tulsa paid Mizzou to rid you guys of a buyout. cincy did the same thing with pine box.

uf/uk vs uconn, memphis, smu, & cincy

i wouldnt call that a step down

That was my first reaction, too. And my second one.

Mine too ... but not my third one. The Aac has a near-to-long term problem that can be characterized thusly: $$$$

2 questions about its hoops viability:

1) how long does L. Brown stay @ Smu?

2) how long can Uconn carry the conference?

Sec is a much better set-up over the long-er term, Aac is viable for the short-term, maybe only...
