Aki Collins and M.J. Rhett info with T.S. U.
Aki had a detailed meeting with one official but did not make the final cut. I spoke with the committee on yesterday and matching pay would have been impossible. Ford and B. Collins are at the top and Collins may have an edge with the talent he has access to and close ties to Memphis Talent. On another note I also spoke with M. J Rhett and Memphis may still be an option.

I don't understand what you are saying. If they can't pay him, aren't his Memphis recruiting ties a moot point?

The previous coach only got around $133K. Aki is making about twice that as an assistant at Memphis.

He had that also. His led his team deep into the JC playoffs. His players graduate and they do win.

Gr8 Info +8......I am excited about the possibility of MJ playing at Memphis....He has a lot of options, but being that Memphis will be a very young but talented team allows him to come in and be a floor leader....I really think that's a big plus for MJ as well as Memphis we need each other and him being the leader allows him to play his game and as long as he plays with the level of intensity that he has.....There is no reason why our offense can't run through him.....Also,he will get to pay in an NBA arena and could be a pick of the Grizzlies as his skillset actually fits the role of a player just like Tayshawn Prince and he could become a cap casualty soon

We're supposed to run our offense through a Tennessee State transfer who averaged 10 pts per game last season?

Ok! Whom do you propose based on what you have seen the previous year? How many points did anyone whose coming back from last year average that we would be comfortable with.....?????? Austin averaged how many? Shaq averaged ? what options do we have???? please tell us??? Would love to know your answer
Shaq averaged 11.5 and Austin averaged 9.2 (higher in February and March I bet). Both of them averaged those points against actual competition and not the Ohio Valley conference.

Yeah, That's Gr8 but I personally would like to see another option (for reasons that don't need to be addressed), as we're trying to turn the page for a new and hopefully better season.... I tend to look at how those players were able to finish as apposed to the amount of points scored....If we have a player that can exhibit sufficient mid-range capabilities, that would open up things for Shaq,Austin & Dom if he is here....That's where I think that MJ excels at and it would be easier for Shaq and/or Austin to get buckets.....It's also an area that we struggled in last year and would do wonders for the offense.....I also feel that MJ would lead by example as he wants to be the best rebounder in the nation. Our post players can learn a lot form a player with his tenacity & demeanor and 19 rebounds is one heck of a stat....Even if TSU played Whitestation in a scrimmage JMO
We need Leadership;Toughness;Rebounding; Mid-range skills; Experience......who on our team are you currently confident in that brings those intangibles??????
BTW.....don't kid yourself!
Also, I love the potential of our team, however I feel that we are lacking one key component.....And I seriously believe that MJ has that component....As we have noone else with the aforementioned characteristics!

You think the key to the season is a 4th year transfer from a 5-25 Tennessee State team? Our offense needs to run through a guy who only shot 200 FGA in the Ohio Valley conference last season? Are we being Punk'd?

1st off,MJ would have better players around him.....That's a big boost. And that must be taken in consideration first....don't omit that fact, okay!
Again, No matter the conference,MJ grabbed 19 boards and averaged 9+....So the fact that he's shooting what he's shooting from mid-range is the key;....I think things are getting a bit misconstrued in that you feel that running the offense through MJ would mean that he is dribbling or or dominating the ball, as in Shabazz Napier like.....No! I'm looking at this from the standpoint of who touches the ball in the half-court set. Either by posting or flashing, this is to take advantage of areas on the floor that we have shown weaknesses. MJ has shown the ability to shoot a face-up midrange jumper; or even from the top of the key ala Deandre Daniels or even Dorian Finney-Smith. Thes type players have proven very effective in opening up the court for guards as well as players in the post area and I think that MJ fits this mold....
I also feel that with MJ playing with higher caliber players around him will open his game up more and allow him to flourish.....He would have a positive impact on several players that we are molding to become more like him, such as ; Iverson;King; Austin as well as Shaq and the Jucos that we are bringing in as well.... So again as he is being looked at as a negative that he played at TSU.....However, there were several instances where players from schools that were supposedly from lower tier schools consistently outplayed our front-court.....So we have no reason to feel that we are above anyone....The young man can play ball....And noone that we have seen play at the D1 level that we currently have on our roster has shown the skillsets and determination on the boards that he has shown....So while we are excited about JUCOs...I'm sure TSU is at least above JUCO levels....But some like to argue for the simple fact of arguing.....I'm talking about basketball and winning games and we need help in some areas that this player can assist us in ....period!
