According to McMurphy. VT @ OSU on 9/6, Miami @ Nebraska on 9/20.

Why does VT insist on biting off way more than it can chew and start off every year with a L?

It's typically served VT well in ACC play:

2004 vs. USC, VT wins the ACC
2007 vs. LSU, VT wins the ACC
2010 vs. Boise, VT wins the ACC

Right...

2013 vs. Bama, VT doesn't win the ACC (or division)
2009 vs. Bama, VT doesn't win the ACC (or division)

And even pretending that losing a marquee national game to start the year is good for VT or the ACC is, well, not smart. VT is 0-5 in those games against USC, LSU, Bama and Boise.

Well, VT isn't going into those games thinking it's a loss. The scheduling philosophy at VT is to almost always schedule a marquee non conference opponent. Plus ESPN has often recruited us to play in those games.

I'd like to see the Hokies schedule DOWN ONE NOTCH. Having said that, I think VT is doing just that. Ohio State is tough, but they are not Alabama tough. Once the Hokies are done with the Buckeyes, next up is Tennessee in 2016 (very winnable), 2017 - 18 TBD, then Wisconsin in 2019-20.

Why do folks forget VT beating Nebraska?

It's not so much that Tech seems to bite off more, it's more that for the last 4 years VT has not had a QB or an offense that was able to put a lot of points on the board, and in big games, VT gets very conservative.

Bowden used to do the same thing at FSU, and the VT loss to Boise was due to a fumble late in the 4th IIRC.

Not having the QB to match the defense seems to have been almost the entire problem with VT. Russell Wilson and Mike Glennon both ended up at NC State and had they been at VT, VT could have gone undefeated with those QB's.

VT swept the series with Nebraska and A&M and split the series with LSU but the wins won't get mentioned.

No you don't get the credit you deserve.

That being said how many teams have lost a BCS bowl due to a brain dead kicker obsessed with the funny weed?

From the Tweet :
Primetime B1G/ESPN/ABC: 9-6 Va. Tech at OSU; 9-20 Miami at Neb; 10-4 Neb at MSU; 10-11 PSU at Mich; 10-25 OSU at PSU; 11-1 lll. at OSU

Which one of these is not like the others?

I can think of one.

Really, it hasn't been the home-home series that have been a problem it's been the neutral site games. We split LSU, swept A&M, and Nebraska and have lost Neutral sites against ECU, Cincy, Bama twice, USC, and Boise state. We are 0-6 in neutral site games not counting bowls and win most of our OOC series.

That just shows how difficult it is to find 6 Big Ten games worth showing in prime time (and 2 of the other 5 have ACC opponents)!

Agree.

Those games make more sense than Bama, LSU and USC when those 3 programs are winning national titles. And they're still good matchups that will get national interest, but will be much more winnable.

Lost to a team in Idaho. Then lost to James Madison. Then FURTHER embarrassed the entire conference by winning in a rapidly imploding Coastal division. I'd call that the worst possible scenario for the conference.

Probably because Texas A&M and one of the LSU games was before you joined the ACC, and the VT fan specifically said it helped you in ACC play. NU was just an oversight.

It's not our fault GT lost to a team that lost to JMU... I guess that means your team stinks!

why respond to a GT fan on schedule, GT a team that never plays a signature program, except their superior rivals on Athens. With an athletic program that financially in shambles like MD, their opinion do not stand for much.
