Hannahs transferring to hogs
Surely no one expected him to transfer to UALR.

Big surprise. He'll be a role player up there at best. But he can tell all his friends he's a hog.

He was as of a week ago transferring to ASU. So technically he gave us the big middle finger. Just as I thought he would.

Just another reason to hate the hogs. They probably took him, just so you wouldn't get him. Can you really see him fitting in with Anderson's rag-tag style? I just don't see it.

No, but its Arkansas. They are contractually obligated to take every decent in state recruit. No matter how weak that player may be.

I think that's only true if you guys want the player. Hunter Mickelson would have started for 4 years at ASU. I'll be interested to see what he does at KU next season.

Come on guys. This kid is a shooter, and Anderson needs shooters. He'll find a way to use him just like Sutton used Mike Young, and Nolan used Alex Dillard. If you're an Arkansas kid, being an Arkansas graduate and letterman helps you in the business community if you have any sense at all. I can't blame the young man for making that decision if he is offered.04-cheers

**** him. Never expected a PA grad to come here and we didn't have a scholarship for him regardless.

Buddy Harding came here. At some point, we'll get a PA graduate if we have the right things to offer him and if he's good enough to play for us. At this point, we just don't have the right stuff to attract local talent. You can determine for yourself what the right stuff is.04-cheers

Being an Arkansas player helps you out in the business community if you listen to the rumors.

Doc is on spot with this post. From what I hear from some of the high school coaches, and from what Alum has said of the local AAU coaches, the local local kids don't want to play for Shields. Remember he couldn't even hold on to the Parkview kid that went to ASU, when the Parkview coach own son was an assistant for Shields. The only chance to change the image at UALR is to get a new one. While I don't think Shields is a bad coach, he's not a complete college coach. He can't attract the better players for this level, he can't attract the local kids, and he can't attract the fans.

My point was specifically about PA. Everyone I know personally on this board sent their kids to public school. Kids at PA are raised believing they are "too good" for public school. I just believe they view UALR the same way.

I don't know about that, as I don't know anyone who has ever had a kid at PA. Most folks I know couldn't afford to send kids there.

A lot of parents send their kids to PA to get them out of the LR Public Schools. I spent some time working in the Little Rock School System last year. It was very common to hear from a kid that they were applying to get into PA/CAC/LR Christian...etc. Especially from the more affluent population.

PA has a strict admissions policy though. I wrote a recommendation letter for a student a couple years ago, and it had like 6 or 7 things it wanted me to cover in that letter.

However, I can guarantee you that PA Athletes don't face near the admission standards that students do.

That I can believe. Everyone knows they recruit and give scholarships. It's a joke. And they do a pretty damn good job of recruiting too. Maybe we could hire their football coach as a recruiting coordinator. If he were on staff, I guarantee we would never punt.

We've talked about hiring Kelly for a few years at ASU as an Assistant. Its never happened.

I think he's comfortable where he is. PA has pick of the litter in a lot of cases amongst athletes. As long as those kids don't just have a terrible background, they'll be accepted.

The scary thing is, the Public Schools in LR are starting to recruit too. North Little Rock is especially bad about it. They've got players coming from 40-50 miles away that are magically transferring in to school there.

That's news to me and maybe some parents of kids that go there. So that means those parents are paying outrageous tuition fees to help athletes go there for free, or next to nothing?

Generally every Private School has a program where at least a couple of athletes can earn a scholarship to play there. How many scholarships PA offers is another story.

However, I can guarantee you that if you can play football...the application process is not nearly as difficult for you...even if you are paying tuition.

So the story on Hannahs is that he is planning to walk-on to Arkansas and hope they have a scholarship open for him. He had conversations with both ASU and UALR, but those around him convinced him he was too good for the Sun Belt.

WWWWAAAYYYYY far off track side note

My kids go to public school at gibbs and it has been a great school of international studies but this year common core came in and I will be dialing down the life style and sending my kids to private school.

don't know that kids feel too good for public school but there parents want a good education for their kids and imo common core is not it.

While living in saint louis the ladies in my customer service staff worked two jobs to send their kids to private schools (Catholic) because the stl public school system was pretty bad.

My point being parents will do what they have to to get an education for their children.
