RE: Does Murry Bartow return next season?
This really interesting. Noland said at a BASA fundraiser this past week that we were here to win conference championships, not finish in 3rd place.

I'm betting that Bartow is taking a very serious look @ the Marshall job, and they in him.

Remember that is he leaves, we're not the only NCAA D-1 team looking for a coach this time of year. The AD would work quickly, and with all of his ties, I'm betting he could bring in someone pretty quickly.

Many on this board may soon get to test the truth of the Oscar Wilde quip: "When the gods want to punish us, they answer our prayers."

This is so true. Be careful what you wish for .... However, I'm typically in favor of change when I think that change can be in our best interest. Murry has been here 10-11 years; that's a long time for a coach who has not really 'taken us to the next level.' He hasn't done all that poorly, but on the other hand, we have Andy Enfield taking Gulf Coast to the sweet 16. We can get there & get there quickly.

We could do worse, we could do better. He's not as bad as people make him out to be, but as I said - I think we can do better. It's a different day @ ETSU. So, if he leaves, we'll get a good coach. We just hired a pretty damn good soccer coach, and I think Brittany will also work out as a strong hire.

It sounds like they're leaning towards Neubauer as their guy. Would that make Bartow the lead candidate for EKU?

Good point. Or, Neubauer may hold out for something better making Bartow the leading candidate at Marshall. I wouldn't be surprised to see him leave based on the new expectations from the administration.

Where is Enfield now? How can you get and KEEP an upper mid-major basketball coach, especially when you're restarting a football program? Not making a case for Bartow, but facts are stubborn things. By the way, has Bartow been talking with other schools?

Politically and on paper, Bartow sure does look good.

But key point to that would be taking Bolen with him, I would rather send Bartow and keep Bolen.

From reading the comments in that article everyone seems to think the guy who wrote it is nuts and has no sources to back his claim up and some even doubt Murry is even a candidate. While I'm not complaining I really don't know why Marshall would want Murry either but whatever they can have him!

I'd also rather keep Bolen. I'm convinced either Bolen or the other new assistant was behind our turn around in free throw and 3 point percentage this year.

I have an idea. If Bartow leaves, would it be wise to try to land a coach over 50? I'm thinking a Torbush type guy who is solid with his game, has strong recruiting channels, and has 10 or so years until retirement. Someone who's tired of all the moving around and feels that they only have 1 more move they're willing to make for their career. If they go after a young "up-and-comer," wouldn't that coach more than likely just view ETSU as a stop for them rather than a final destination?

I thought he was hired here when he was 42. Isn't he 52 right now? I'm talking about hiring a coach over 50, not 42, 32, or 23 (Summitt). If an experience coach over 50 comes here, surely he could stick around for 10-15 years until he retires . . . but, who knows. I guess you can't really predict people, when it comes right down to it. Hire a 58 year old, and 2 years later they move.

Yeah, did that with Don Riley in football and that worked out great for us.
I am still not sure about Torbush, I wouldn't be at all surprised if he never coached a game for ETSU (He hasn't worked more then 1 year somewhere in forever before he "retires") and even if he does I bet we have different coach 5 year from now. Get a coach, someone who you think can help ETSU win NOW and build something, don't hire old because we want a coach who doesn't leave, we got that now

But to your point, I think Bolen is 52 or so, how would people on the board feel about him getting the job if Bartow left?

He was a re-tread though. At 42 he'd already been at a really good program and ran it into the ground, and they still haven't recovered.
I try not to look at traditional age but rather basketball years. In coaching years, Bartow is about 137 years old. He's just done and it's time to get into financial planning or insurance sales, or perhaps the Marshall job. He had a little fire this year, but it's just not what it was.
Find me the 27-28 year old assistant who's hungry, or even one who's older that's never gotten a fair shot. Let him come in here and whip arse.
The right coach with the group coming back would win the SoCon next year.
Oh, and I know it's NAIA, but Bolen is a great calculated risk, and seems to be VERY LOYAL to one place. He won at West Virginia's equivalent to Virginia Intermont, and won a lot.
I'd be in, especially if put Mister in the 2nd or 3rd chair.

I like the "find me a 27 year old who is hungry."

Boy, what a difficult thing to coach D1 at any level. The guy has to be a politician, a genuine x and o coach, be able to recruit, run a team of coaches and assistants, manage all the personalities on the court...AND have enough street cred that he can recruit inner city kids. Not an easy skill set to find.

Are there a few hidden meanings in that article? Well . . .

Murry Bartow says he’s looking for new talent, not a new job.

Hidden meaning: "ETSU can kiss my ass as I head to West Virginia."

“I’m certainly planning on being here, so you’re going to have to deal with me a while longer,” he said Wednesday.

Hidden meaning: Actually, there's no hidden meaning here. That statement was directed to RodShaw.

Bartow is hoping to build on a 19-16 season.

Hidden meaning: 20-15.

“We really need a little bit of everything,” said Bartow.

Hidden meaning: "We really need more guards."

“You look at his stats and they won’t wow you,” said Bartow.

Hidden meaning: That's exactly why he was recruited.

Asked if he’s seen anything to suggest Giplaye can work his way into the mix next season, the coach wasn’t sure.

Hidden meaning: Giplaye won't play next year either.

The Bucs may or may not have recruits officially on board next Wednesday.

Hidden meaning: There will be no more recruits. Expect some last minute JUCO's to fill the slots.

“I was really impressed with UConn,” said Bartow.

03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao Uh, ya think? 03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao

“The two smallest guys on the court just carried them"

Hidden meaning: "We really need more guards."

“You look at the last two years, with Louisville having Siva and Russ Smith a year ago, two little guards"

Hidden meaning: "We really need more guards . . . little guards."

John Calipari, the Wildcats’ coach and a friend of the Bartow family.

Hidden meaning: Calipari knows some Bartows, just not Murry.
