I guess this board should take it's own advice if the reported $100M of the $110M is staying with UC, USF & UCONN (or About $90M of it anyway).05-stirthepot

I think we overpaid, but A) we can afford it and B) we got something valuable in the transaction.

I'm not saying we're better than the Aresco League posters (at least I'm not saying that right now), I'm saying that they've been repeatedly put into turd sandwich situations, and they didn't handle it too well.

I didn't handle it well when I thought we were stuck with that crew, so I can't throw too many stones.

Its not that good of a deal for UC,USF, & UCONN... remember Temple, ND, Louisville, and Rutgers get prorated shares out of that pot. Plus that doesn't include that the 35 plus million in fees the C7 do not have to pay for leaving early. so basically the c7 schools are getting about 8 million each of a 110 pot and then paying their early exit fees. The real question is does the C7 get to take their NCAA units with them. If that is the case the deal is clearly pro C7.

Reports are the remaining 3 will get about $30M each

I'm thinking about suing the BEast for a bait-n switch scheme!

@radioinsight: Sports DomainInsight: The remaining Big East football schools to rebrand as the "America 12" with domain registrations made by its lawfirm”

America-12? Why would you put a number behind it, it will probably change very soon. I personally liked Big Metro Conference or Big Metro Athletic Conference (Big MAC).

That is a horrible name for a conference.

At least add an "N" at the end and make it American. Not good, but better than this.

There may not have been a happier and prouder person on the court after the game than AAC commissioner Mike Aresco. He was beaming with joy over the Connecticut Huskies' 60-54 national championship win over Kentucky.

Basketball season has been very good to the new league. It now has the champion in men's basketball and will see UConn's women try for the women's title tomorrow night against Notre Dame. If they are successful, it will be the second double title for UConn, which also accomplished that feat in 2004.

The league also performed well in the NIT. SMU, which many feel was the first team left out of the NCAA Tournament, finished as the runner-up to Minnesota in the men's NIT. Rutgers won the women's NIT by beating UTEP.

Heck, even football season was good to the league. UCF was a blowout winner in the Fiesta Bowl over Baylor.

UConn has 4 NCAA Titles and the NBE has 3.

Marquette 1977, Georgetown 1984, Villanova 1985.

just so you guys know, we all transferred to a different board. Oh hey, Congrats to UConn, our former Fellow Big East. Dont worry UConn, you and the Bearcats will land in a happier place soon enough.

RE: Advisory--stay off their board for at least 24 hours
Settle down guys. There is plenty of room for both the American and Big East to be successful. Notwithstanding the A10's good year, their economics are unlikely to allow them to deliver 6 schools to the tournament consistently, let alone schools to the E8 or Sweet 16. Bottom line, they average 4,000 as a conference and have a minimal TV deal. Realistically, they are 3 bid league.

The Big East figures to average 10,000 attendance as a conference, more than some P5 conferences, and generates TV money for hoops consistent with the P5. The American figures to average 6-7,000 as a conference, with Memphis and UConn matching the best of the P5 in basketball revenues. Both the Big East and American figure to be consistent 4-5 bid leagues.

Admittedly, this was a rebuilding year for Temple (which was expected; and the Owls should do much better next year, with the transfers who were sitting out), as well as UCF (who have been getting over scholarship reductions).
HOUSTON won some good games this year (including a victory over UCONN). However, the bar has been raised in basketball next year with the hire of Kelvin Sampson. (We all saw what Larry Brown did at SMU..)
That said, all 3 of these teams are pulling their weight.
gosports, See.. We are an ALL-SPORTS conference. The last thing I'd want for my schools would be to be in a basketball-only conference when the upcoming changes get announced.
I'm sure you've seen UCF's blowout of the Big 12 Champion in the Fiesta Bowl. It's been a good year for the AAC. 04-cheers

* Be sure to tune in tonight to watch the UCONN Women play for the National Title.

im happy for uconn fans that they won. good for them. However i dont understand why you (and a handful of others) feel the need to try and start something with the BE schools. Maybe when (if) Houston wins the AAC you can gloat.
I especially dont get why most of the trash talking comes from fans of schools that had nothing to do with the c7. Why does it matter so much if the NBE fails? You do know that the P5 want nothing to do with the AAC and the rest of fbs football right? The fans of the BE and AAC should have a common tie/bond not wishing the other fail. That wish should be saved for the ACC! 03-lmfao
