I made that very comment in another thread. It's lookin' like C-USA's dash to the finish line will be the most interesting of all the G-5's. Tough to even make a call right now as to who's got the inside track, especially with Rice stumbling of late.

Although we haven't lost a C-USA series yet, I would say that we probably do not. We still have to play @ Rice and USM at home in our on-campus stadium. We also still have series left with Tulane, Marshall, Charlotte, and FAU.

Rice, if they can get their stuff back together, will be a tough weekend, no doubt. USM at your place is hard to call. They're playing pretty decent ball right now and have 4 series wins against C-USA competition, 2 of those series wins being on the road. If you guys can play like you did in your series wins against Old Dominion and FIU, you should fare well from here forward.
Tulane's in total disarray right now and looking for the exit with Marshall, Charlotte, and FAU not far behind.
Personally, I like your chances.

We have a big week coming up. MSU on Tuesday in Jackson and weekend series at UAB. I'll be happy if we split the 4 games.

Yikes. I didn't see that you guys had MSU sammiched in there. They're coming off being swept in Baton Rouge, have Ole Miss visiting this coming weekend, and I bet they're not going to be in any mood to lose 4 games in a row, especially to in-state rival Southern Miss. Good luck though. You guys are playing well enough to pull that one out.

Our mid-week game after the UAB series is LSU in New Orleans

I never thought I'd see the day where UAB was leading the conference in baseball but you know what I'll take it for now.
Still have some of our harder series to play though so I don't expect to stay on top for the rest of the year.

Nope. But considering we weren't even projected to finish in the top half of the conference, I'm pretty pleased with where we're at right now. I'm sure we'll eventually hit a rough patch, but if we can finish in the top 5, I'll take it.

Our mid-week game after the UAB series is LSU in New Orleans
Our remaining midweek games are what could determine our at-large chances:
Miss St (39) in Pearl
LSU (22) in Metairie
at Alabama (14)
at Ole Miss (9)
Throw in the fact we have a series at UAB (72) and a home serires vs Rice (19) it makes for a challenging upcoming 13 game stretch.

I knew Nolan had an elaborate formula that took into account a lot of different factors but damn...the guy is predicting the weather now?

The faster this season ends, the better. I was always of fan of Rick Jones, but it is about time that we both move on. Will be interesting to see who Tulane brings in.

I emailed him this morning that correction. He was missing the Marshall win over Tulane that was delayed after 7 innings and then wasn't resumed the following day.
