RE: Transfers
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — One impact player leaving early was bad enough, but two? St. John’s head coach Steve Lavin cannot be a happy man right now.
Not after reports surfaced Thursday that shot-blocking force Chris Obekpa is the latest member of the Red Storm to leave the program.
A 6-foot-9 sophomore forward known for his defensive prowess, Obekpa was granted his release and is expected to transfer, SNY reported.
Obekpa is the latest player to fly Lavin’s coup. Sophomore JaKarr Sampson declared for the NBA draft, and sophomore reserve guard/forward Max Hooper was also granted his release from the program not long after the season ended.
The reason for Obekpa’s departure was not immediately known, but it could have something to do with playing time. He logged just two minutes in the Big East Tournament quarterfinal loss to Providence and just 11 minutes in the shocking defeat to Robert Morris in the first round of the NIT.
Obekpa averaged 3.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.0 blocks this past season. Baylor and Oregon have been rumored as his potential landing spots, CBSSports.com reported.

Didn't he pick St. Johns over UC because of location? Baylor and Oregon aren't exactly close to New York.

I'm pretty sure Oregon was a finalist during his initial recruitment due to Nike's involvement with his handlers...err...AAU coaches.

RE: Transfers
Is there some kind of deadline coming up?:
Quote:Maurice Watson to Creighton; Foster to Penn State ; Dejean-Jones, Williams to Iowa State
April 13th, 2014 4:30 pm
Transferring Boston University point guard Maurice Watson committed to Creighton on Sunday, his father, Maurice Sr., told SNY.tv.
“It’s the Big East, so he gets to come home and play in front of his family as well as against some of the best talent in NCAA basketball on the big stage,” Maurice Sr., said. “He loved everything and the program offered everything he is looking for. The player development piece as well as the coaching staff has been recruiting him since he was in high school. They love him and made him feel like they were the program for him. And we as a family agree.”
The 5-foot-10 Philadelphia native was also considering Illinois and Wichita State, his dad said.
Watson led BU in scoring (13.3 points per game), assists (7.1) and steals (2.1) as a sophomore. As per NCAA rules, he would have to sit out next season and will then have two years remaining.
JUCO GUARD DEVIN FOSTER COMMITS TO PENN STATE
Vincennes (IN) College combo guard Devin Foster has committed to Penn State.
“Devin wanted to play in the Big Ten,” Vincennes assistant coach Brian Davis told SNY.tv. “Penn State is close to Dayton, Ohio. He loved the coaches and campus. He is a strong, athletic lefty combo guard at 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds. He shoots it well and attacks the basket.”
Foster also held offers from Bradley, Eastern Kentucky, Loyola University Chicago, St. Bonaventure and Texas A&M, Davis said.
DEJEAN-JONES, WILLIAMS TO IOWA STATE
Iowa State picked up a pair of players in UNLV shooting guard Bryce Dejean-Jones and Iowa Western Community College forward Darien Williams, sources told SNY.tv.
Dejean-Jones, a 6-foot-5 guard, averaged 13.6 points and 3.7 rebounds per game for the Runnin’ Rebels this year. The news broke just a few weeks ago that Dejean-Jones would not be returning to UNLV.
Due to the graduate transfer rule, Dejean-Jones is eligible to play immediately for Iowa State next year.
The 6-8 Williams will have surgery on his shoulders and will miss next season, suiting up in 2015, he told the Ames Tribune.
“I have to get surgery on my shoulders to get them tightened up,” he told the paper, “because they get kind of loose. I didn’t take care of it in high school.
“It’s not a major thing, like I tore something, it’s just my shoulders pop out so I have to get them tightened up.”
He averaged 16.1 points and 6.7 rebounds last season.

It only affects them because a scholarship may not be available (Or may come available elsewhere) as the dominoes fall on Wednesday.

I know it's far fetched since this guy is a California kid who's at USC but I'd love to add this kind of talent to our roster. According to Jon Rothstein on twitter he's transferring. See he was suspended a couple games so there may be a character concern.

RE: Transfers
There has been absolutely no UC news as far as I have heard the last few weeks.
It doesnt look good for Torian Graham who was the only one really making any noise (but he never made a visit and we never heard of coaches visiting him) so idk where all that came from
Other than him I havent heard a single name

I haven't heard a single word either. Not good if you have 2 open schollies. Graham seems like a lost cause. Would be nice to bring in a couple of senior transfers who can play right away but they dont seem to be a factor with any of those guys either.

Not sure he's a great fit. Can he play the 2? We've already got 2 SFs and I can't see either of them playing SG. Not a whole lot of minutes for 3 veteran SF.

He's a much more offensively skilled than the 3's UC has right now. Would be an upgrade at least in that capacity.
