RE: Bob Winn to Assume New Role with M-Club
Many years ago, I was part of one of the last groups to pick out their tickets at the pyramid. Lee Fowler, Assistant AD at the time, wished he was somewhere else. Since the floor was down, I asked him where the baseline would be. He gave me a very rude "I don't know, you'll have to guess."
Bob isn't the first in the Athletic department to offend the smaller givers.

RE: Bob Winn to Assume New Role with M-Club
Rumor mill has had several stories where Winn's ethics were questionable.
This is the rumor mill. I have no first hand knowledge of this.
Maybe, I should post this. Maybe not.
But, i have heard enough of these stories. Where there is smoke . There is fire.
I would recommend caution to those of you vehemently defending Winn.
During his career, there have been achievements in some areas. But also, he has been part of that Normal Ave crowd who have looked like clowns at times.

Not my perception of him. Never gave the average fan the time of day.
FAIL! No one will talk about Bob here and get away with it. He's s great guy but his hands were always tied.
He knows how to play the game well and smooze with the whales, but he was really good at looking right through the little-guy Tiger faithful who gave smaller amounts. He is arrogant. Lots of people have had that experience with him.
I was a no name walk on that probably should've never seen the field, but Bob never treated me any different than all the schollie players. In my senior year I approached him about an internship to satisfy my degree requirements and he immediately said yes. He and his staff welcomed me and I have been fortunate enough to stay on as a Gameday staffer for nearly 20 years. I have never seen Bob be anything but "above board" and I have NEVER seen him treat ANY fan/supporter with anything but respect. When it wasn't sure whether Bob would stay on staff, many of my former teammates contacted me and ALL of them were outraged. He's been a friend and mentor to me and I am greatful to have been associated with him for the last 24 years. Coach Armstrong thought the world of Bob and asked that he write his eulogy. To me, and many others, that he was so loved by Coach A says all that needs to be said. Carry on with your character assassination.

Great post! Bob has been nothing but class. Apparently, some here have a personal axe to grind because they didn't get special treatment, etc. Bob treats "everyone" the same.

RE: Bob Winn to Assume New Role with M-Club
I've never been a football player, walk-on or not. I've never wanted special treatment for one second.
But I can't help but have noticed that Mr. Winn never seemed to go out of his way to even acknowledge the small donors at any event, with a smile or a hand held out or a simple introduction.
But he will just about knock you down trying to get to a large donor. A huge part of the possible donor base was totally ignored, discounted, and disrespected during R.C.'s tenure, to the detriment of the whole program. It was unconscionable, and Mr. Winn was an integral part of this regime, and Mr. Winn somehow missed the broom that did the sweeping of the AOB rats when R.C. left.
I have my opinion and my experiences. Others have theirs. But I am far from alone in my assessment of this U of M employee.

Exactly.
He publicly embarrassed me in front of my wife and another couple right before one of the first games in the Pyramid, as I ducked my head inside the room where the scoreboard graphics were being operated by Phil Cannon. I had stopped to say high to Phil and was told to "get out of here" by Winn.
My first instinct was to kick his ass. My second instinct was to change my donation level and my third and best instinct was to walk away.
We had a private phone call a few days later, dropped a name on him and in true Winn fashion, had to take another call.
In my experience, he is categorized in my personal list of major a$$holes, and in my opinion part of the ever going problem in that athletic department for decades.
Just retire Bob and quit riding the gravy train.

He actually almost ran over me at one event to get to one. Literally.
And yes, that is where the big money has always been at the U of M because that was the strategy of R.C., BUT that whole AOB group left a ton of money from the small boosters on the table because they were completely ignored. No one really knows how much money could have been raised from that loyal group, even in small donations, because that source was never really tapped.

Great post!
Preach on brother. Most of us that know Bob at all know that his character is excellent. He is a very nice man that has given to his alma mater time and time again. He passed up other career opportunities to stay at the school he loves and even sent his daughter through. Too many on this board are quick to assassinate another based on zero facts. Bob has never been anything but kind to me, my family, or anyone I have introduced to him.

I agree with that and will add that he strikes me as competent. The only problem that I ever had with him was his apparent disregard for the need for the athletic department to get on the same page with the university's brand colors.

Geez Louise!!! If I knew all it takes to bring back SCConway to post on MT.org is to mention BW, I would have done it early and often.
Welcome back (even if it's just briefly). Hope all is well in SC, Conway.
